1932 Rolls Royce 20/25 Sedanca de Ville, Barkers Coachwork with divisionReg No. GW6158Chassis No. GBT31 Engine No. J3ZDark Blue body, Black Wings and Leathercloth Roof, interior Blue Leather front and Grey cloth rear.Odometer 00984The Rolls Royce 20/25 model superseded their 20hp car in 1929 following a need to increase performance. As a result the engine was enlarged to 3669cc and depending upon coachwork carried a claimed top speed of 75mph was possible. This particular car was ordered through London agents Paddon Bros. by its first owner who resided at Grosvenor House in Park Lane W1, with instructions to have coachwork commissioned by Barker & Co Ltd to the design drawing GE10396, namely this Sedanca de Ville with division. The chassis is of the “long” type, this being more suitable for the formal coachwork applied.Chassis GBT31 was despatched to Barker’s on the 6/2/1932 and the completed vehicle delivered on the 22/3/1932. The factory build records and sales details are on file for the first two owners, the second owner taking possession in July 1934 and there are three further owners recorded between 1936 and 1945.Unfortunately, the next document shows that the late deceased owner purchased GBT31 on the 6/4/1977, little other paperwork has been found other than correspondence for a full radiator rebuild by Serck Marston in 1990. The deceased family confirm that this was a well loved and maintained car and certainly performed well upon our test. The last MOT test was March 2011.Sold with V5.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report: No toolkit or spares present.Copies of chassis card, bodycard from new, receipts and instruction booklet have been photographed.

A 1934 Alvis Speed Twenty SC Tourer by Vanden PlasReg No. BLX277Car No. 16749 Chassis No. 11926Engine No. 13497 Body No. 3278Green with Tan leather interior and tan hood / sidescreens.Odometer. 70,234 milesThe Speed Twenty model was one of the finest and most successful pre-war Alvis models. With its powerful 2.7 litre OHV ‘straight six’ engine it allowed for smooth high speed motoring in conjunction with its all synchromesh gear box.A total of 289 chassis were constructed of which 21 carried this tourer design. It is believed today there are only 10 of this Vanden Plas design that survive. This car was first delivered to London main agent Charles Follet on the 5th October 1934, being first registered in February 1935.A long term owner (1970 to 2006) had this car comprehensively rebuilt through 1987 to 1989 in what can only be described as a ‘full nut and bolt’ restoration.During this restoration the car was adapted to run on coil ignition only and a Modern oil filter was fitted.Clearly, this car has been cherished by all its owners since the restoration, the accompanying history file records both pre restoration and post restoration maintenance. Unfortunately, due to this sale being as a result of a deceased estate we cannot provide details of works undertaken in recent years but the DVLA provide MOT history online up until 2013.From our inspection and evaluation of this car we have established that the pedal arrangement has been re-engineered to a conventional right hand foot throttle.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report: Chip to leading edge of rear offside wing.Small paint chip to the same wing.Chip to back where boot latch has caught frame.Paintwork otherwise generally excellent.Car runs well and improves as it warms up - has previously stood for approx 2.5 years.Upholstery good with minor extremity wear only.Dash is fully restored.Hood good, no tears and action good.Chrome generally excellent with minor pitting on windscreen surround only.Lamps and radiator excellent.

1934 Alvis Firefly TourerRegistration No: AFY 850,Chassis No: 11092,Odometer 20143,Cross & Ellis coachwork No: 53548. The first owner was supplied by Bambers of Southport, Lancs. Full detailed and documented restoration in 1974. The AFY 850 is featured in “Alvis Firefly Twelve” by Simon Fisher.Powered by a 1496cc OHV four cylinder engine with its low slung “double dropped” ladder frame chassis, this Firefly Tourer drives strongly and smoothly reaching speeds over 70mph and was praised by the motoring press for its handling capabilities. The Alvis features the ENV 110 preselector gear box that has only recently had a complete refurbishment with all couplings replaced. Two previous owners, over a forty year period, were qualified engineers and the owner carrying out the meticulous restoration in the 70’s, logged over 2000 hours of work on this car. The reconditioned engine fitted then, has since only done 20,140 miles. All work undertaken has been fully documented. The car comes with a very large history file including correspondence with many manufacturers at the time and copies of the official works handbook. All bright work has been rechromed, the interior professionally reupholstered, dashboard instruments overhauled by John Marks, completely rewired, running board timbers renewed with oak and the radiator, steering and rear axle differential renovated. Professional work on the body frame used teak and the bodywork has been topped off with a detailed application of fifteen coats of coach enamel. The hood and its operation with all side windows works perfectly. An excellent example of a grand touring car from one of Britain’s major sporting marques.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTION

Lot 3425

1949 Land Rover Series One.Registration Number TAS 185,Chassis number R8666588,Engine number 866633, Odometer 37680.This Series 1, 80" left the factory in June 1949. It is in exceptional and original condition throughout with factory original gaps and no major flaws visible. No filler is evident and the panels are remarkable for a Land Rover of this age. Inner wings, engine compartment etc., are all in good order and the rear floor is straight suggesting the vehicle had only ever had light use in its 72 years.Lights are of the correct original early Lucas type and in good order. Vintage Cibie dipping spotlights were fitted at a later date. The wire hinged door tops are in exceptional condition as are the hood and framework. Lightly used Avon Traction tyres fitted. It is extremely rare to find original seats in an early Series 1. This example retains the now obsolete, original pattern vinyl with Dunlopillo foam bases. The instruments are correct and in excellent original order. The dash retains early features such as the illuminated "oil" light, red tipped 20/20 ammeter and correct and rare panel light switch. Steering wheel, bakelite horn push and dip switch assembly are complete, original and very well presented. A working Smiths heater and windscreen demister vents are non original but sympathetically fitted. A correct early single wiper is fitted. The Land Rover is also highly desirable in that it retains its original "matching numbers" engine and running gear. The 1595cc engine runs beautifully suggesting that the low recorded mileage of 37680 is pretty much correct. Our vendor is the fourth owner and has owned the vehicle for nine years. Having researched the history of this Series 1 with the two previous owners, the original owner who had it for 26 years in Sussex did an estimated 32000 miles. The second owner, an enthusiast, resprayed the Land Rover probably around 1978. That owner, lived for many years on the Isle of Mull and used the vehicle rarely on an Isle where big road trips don't happen! The only existing MOT shows mileage at 36990 on 17.12.2003. Usage with this second owner plus the third owner in Suffolk and the vendor are estimated at only 5000-6000 miles. The last three owners ensured the vehicle was stored under cover. Our opinion is that the current mileage is likely to be correct underlining the uniqueness of this Series 1.The chassis number R8666588 places this as one of the first ever deep bronze green Land Rovers and the lights behind the grille and ring-pull gearbox highlight this as an early vehicle.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report:Bulkhead in good condition with no apparent repairs.Chassis good.Has been re-sprayed at some point.

Lot 3427

1960 Morgan Plus 4, Four SeaterReg No. TDR 431Chassis No. 4526 Engine No. TS67598 Gearbox No. 22208HROld English White with Blue interior piped whiteOdometer 33,700 milesFirst seen in 1950, the Morgan Plus 4 was a larger and more powerful derivative of the company's 4/4 and has remained in production on and off until 2020 when it was replaced by an all new bonded aluminium platform. Up until 1969, it was powered by the four-cylinder engines found in the Standard/Triumph range. This Morgan Plus 4 four seater is powered by the 1991cc Triumph TR3 engine fitted with twin SU H6 carburettors and is mated to a four speed gearbox. Front disc brakes fitted. There is comprehensive documentation revealing much of the vehicles history.First registered in Plymouth on the 7th June 1960 the car was ordered in Green with a black interior. At some time during its first decade the car was painted yellow. History records ownership changes through to 1989 when the then owners embarked upon a major restoration using a new body and chassis, a change of colour to its present form.More recently in 1996 the cars next owner fully rebuilt the engine including the fitting of hardened valve seats and an improved Kent camshaft.Another new owner in the early 2000’s fitted telescopic rear dampers and a Kenlowe cooling fan.The body is of the “highline” configuration with the high cowl. The car comes with a full set of side screens, a tonneau cover, owners instruction book and much history.Sold with V5.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTION

Lot 3428

A 1966 Jaguar 3.4 S type Manual + o/dReg No. LUW 411DChassis No. P1B5635DNEngine No. 7B8199-8Grey Metallic with Black leather interiorOdometer 70,689 milesThe Jaguar S-type was introduced in 1963 and was an updated version of the MKII Jaguar saloon utilising the central section of the body with new front and rear styling. The front incorporated a four lamp layout, the lower two are in board close to the central grille. The rear wings were extended in a similar style to the MK10 Jaguar. Importantly, the new floor pan layout provided for independent rear suspension which superseded the leaf sprung of the MKII.The S-type was produced from September 1963 through to July 1968 and was replaced by the short lived 420 before the introduction of the all new XJ6.This particular car was first registered on the 27th July 1966, fitted with desirable manual gearbox plus optional overdrive and power steering and painted wire wheels. The car has also been retrofitted with central locking. It appears to have had bodywork restoration in 2004, there are invoices for parts and services in the history file. The current owner has owned this vehicle for 10 years, minimal mileage has been accrued during this time as can be seen from the DVLA on line MOT history which run till April 2018, a total mileage increase of only 8,000 miles to date. This sale comes as a result of the owners health. The car appears to be in good mechanical condition, it would however benefit from some cosmetic attention. The car comes with a folder of invoices dating back to 1997, the original steering wheel is also with car should originality be required.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report:Runs well and was driven in.Gearbox good.Fuel dirty as it has stood for a year and is spluttering at present.

Lot 3430

A 1968 Sunbeam Alpine Series V GTReg No. NLY978FChassis No. B395016307GTODGreen with Black interiorOdometer 89,260 milesThe original Alpine of 1953 to 1955 had not sold as well as the Rootes Group had hoped, their next attempt was much more successful. At the time of the Series I Alpine’s introduction Rootes had to compete with sports cars such as the MG MGA and Triumph TR3A which were already selling well in the USA.The new Alpine of 1959 did away with a heavy chassis and utilised a modern underpan from the Hillman Husky II suitably strengthened by cruciform bracing with the then current running gear of the Sunbeam Rapier. The most distinctive design feature of this new model were the prominent tail fins on the rear wings and a modern wrap around windscreen together with wind up windows which were absent on their competitors cars. The Alpine was well received by both the press and public alike, Rootes took the opportunity to improve this design on a regular basis which ended with their final series in 1965 which continued in production until early 1968.Our car was one of the last produced and was first registered on the 1st February 1968. Being the GT model, it is fitted with an elegant hardtop, wood finish to the dashboard and +2 configuration. The GT version was sold as an upmarket model so was never fitted with the soft-top or its mechanism although many owners over the years have retro-fitted these items. The 1725cc engine with 5 main bearings is fitted together with twin semi-downdraught Zenith carburettors and has the overdrive gearbox fitted. This car underwent a major body restoration in 1990 involving professional repairs with new repair panels to all four inner and outer wings, sills and door bottoms, all finished with lead loading and finally repainted in 2 pack paint. We believe that the mileage shown is correct as the many MOT certificates on file going back to the 1970’s together with those available on line up to 2015 appear to corroborate this. Clearly, this Alpine has been much cherished by its long term husband and wife owners, the car presents very well today with minimal cosmetics required to return it to mint condition.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report:Car runs well.We believe colour to be original; VIN plate states 86 Forest Green. No soft top conversion.Roof easily detachable and retachable, clips are good.Vendor has owned for over 40 years and has an extensive folder of history. although very little from the 5 years. No evidence of clutch replacement.Door gaps excellent.Chassis excellent.Bodywork generally very good, some corrosion to rear window sill and top of offside wing. Some crazing to perspex quarter lights.Upholstery good, no tears or major marks.Dashboard tarnished and faded along lower edge.Yellow box in engine bay is part of electronic ignition.Chrome good with minor tarnishing only, except for the rear bumper and wheel caps which have significant tarnishing.Rubbers around windscreen with some perishing.

Lot 3432

1972 Lotus Europa Twin CamReg No. NMF2LChassis No. 72031465PBlack with Black interior (originally Lotus Yellow)Odometer 36533Lotus Europa’s were produced between 1996 and 1975, a total of 9,230 being made. They used a backbone chassis and lightweight fibreglass body which was fully bonded to the chassis for additional strength. The mounting of the engine and gearbox behind the cabin allowed for the main chassis member to run straight forward to intersect a large box-section cross-beam running across the car between the front suspension points. At the rear, the chassis split into a "U" shape to accommodate combined engine, transmission and final-drive components and to support the rear suspension. The first models used powertrains from Renault’s 16, the Twin Cam using the Lotus/Ford unit of 1588cc.This Lotus is definitely a “barn find”, found blocked up on three wheels with a new brake master cylinder in place but not connected to the pedal nor system fluid replaced. However, with fuel drained and refreshed, with the aid of a jump connection the engine fired and once cleared runs with good oil pressure.Clearly, recommissioning work will be required to return this iconic sports car to the road but this could be achieved quickly and inexpensively or alternatively be an ideal candidate for a full restoration. There is a full Lotus workshop manual with the car along with sundry bills and receipts.Sold with V5.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report: Fibreglass body is generally sound, but with some gel coat delamination commensurate with age.Chassis condition unknown, but car dry has been dry stored for many years.Brightwork generally very good but requires a clean.Rear bumper lightly corroded.Car runs with reasonable oil pressure.Gearbox functions, drives through all gears. No hydraulic brakes due to replacement master cylinder fitted, but not reconnected to foot pedal and requires bleeding.Battery is dead.Interior generally good but tired.Drivers electric window not working. Both doors dropped slightly on hinges.

Lot 3434

A 1953 MG TD MidgetReg No. TSJ966Chassis No. TD27729Engine No. N519236Colour. Green with Beige interior, Tan hood and side screensOdometer. 31,267The MG TD was introduced in 1949 to replace the TC model which was really a continuation of the pre-war TB. The new TD model was based upon the new MG Y-type chassis, shortened by 5 inches. The major change with this new design was the incorporation of independent coil sprung front suspension.Following the success of the TC Midget which sold in large numbers to Commonwealth countries and more surprisingly to the USA market, the TD continued with this success but by 1953 this design was becoming outdated by new modern designs. The MG factory was well on the way to designing the sleek and modern looking MGA, however, senior management within BMC insisted that other marques within the group should get investment for new models first. The result of this decision meant that MG brought out the MG TF model with built in headlights as a stop gap model. This MG TD Midget comes from a local private collection having been purchased by our vendor in 2008. During this time approximately 4,000 miles have been added to the odometer, mostly enjoyed on outings with the MG Car Club. There is history on file which includes a certificate from the MG Octagon Car Club stating this car was built in the 3rd week of May 1953.Major works were undertaken by an earlier owner between 2001 and 2002 for which there are invoices on file. These include major engine rebuild including fitment of new big end bearings, new pistons, rebuilt skimmed cylinder head to lead free conversion including new valves, guides, valve seats, valve springs etc.Further work then included rebuild of brakes, steering and other sundry work.It is not known when this vehicle was last given a major body refurbishment but clearly the structure appears to be in good condition. The paintwork has suffered from micro blistering in certain areas and both rear wings and running boards would benefit from refurbishment. The car comes with current V5c, workshop manual and side screens, old MOT’s.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTION

A very original machine in good 'barn find' condition, ideal for re-conditioning as is or for full restoration. With V5 which gives No. as SL9758During the First World War, the Russians ordered several of this model, but they were probably not delivered due to the 1917 revolution. Shortly before he died 'Pa Norton' (the company founder) toured South Africa on a Big Four. Lot 1280

A 1937 Morris 8 series 1 Motor Car Registration No. COY 216 first registered on the 19th March 1937. Chassis No. S1/E 136088, a reconditioned engine Serial No. B74738 was apparently fitted in 1955, when she was eighteen. She is very attractively finished in blue and black and these vehicles had a surprisingly economical 4 cylinder side-valve petrol engine of about 918 cc capacity, although the documents curiously refer to a cubic capacity of 885 cc. Write-ups refer to economy in the region of 44 M.P.G. This series 1 car with the attractive honeycomb grill is in lovely condition physically and mechanically having been the subject of comprehensive restoration work with many new parts and she runs like a watch having excellent oil pressure and starting on the button whether hot or cold. She has a new S.U. carburettor and fuel pump as well as new tyres all round including the spare. She is classified as an Historic Vehicle, as such requiring to be road taxed but this is free of charge and she is not subject to the requirement of M.O.T. testing. Insurance for historic vehicles is available from specialist insurance companies at very reasonable premiums. As well as the V5C(W) registration document, there are three old brown and one green log-books present detailing ownerships and regular road taxing (starting at 5 Guineas!). The first owner was a Percy Newman Hyde of Purley, Surrey, then on the 18 June, 1945 she was registered to Nellie Winifred Wotton of South Croydon, going back into the name of the original owner a week later on the 23 June,1945. He continued to own and use the car it being taxed variously at Purley, Wallington, Surrey and Croydon. From the 6 September, 1962 the owner was a Richard Graham Byers of Wallington. On 20 May, 1963 the owner registered is a David Nigel House of Beddington, Croydon, then from 7 September,1964?, a Patrick Robin Jay of Paddock Wood, Kent. On 6 July, 1970 ownership passed to a Terence Alan Collins of High Halden, Ashford, Kent, then on 9 August, 1971 to a Walter Wayne Harrison of Maidstone Kent who moved to Aspley Guise, Bletchley, Bucks. From 24 April, 1972 she was in the ownership of a David Roy Ellis of Woburn Wild Animal Kingdom, Bedfordshire. On 22 January, 1973 she became registered to an Alan John Stafford of Renaold, Bedfordshire who moved to Brickhill, Bedfordshire. A gap in the ownership details then exists, the next recorded owner being a Mrs. Clare Edwards of Ludlow who acquired the car on the 17 September, 2010 the current Abergavenny based owner acquiring the car on the 12 December, 2010. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the car but now wishes to pursue other interests. We were very much looking forward to driving the car to our sale-rooms but due to being sorn'd, we resorted to trailering her but she behaved faultlessly during our photo session and whilst moving her in and out of covered storage at the sale-rooms. All in all an economical motor car with four-wheel braking eager to attend rallies and road runs now that such may commence once more. Included with her are: An "Operation Manual for the Morris Eight Series 1" (1936), a 1960 hard-bound volume "Car Maintenance Series Morris Cars (models from 1934)", a Pitman's Motorist's Library - "The Book of the Morris Eight and The Morris Minor", an invaluable book to the owner "The Morris Eight (Series E) Workshop Manual", and a card-back volume entitled "Fifty Years of Motoring", 1960, a fascinating book with numerous illustrations of motor cars through the years. Please also look out for the following lots including many Morris Eight Spares, as well as the owner's workshop tools. ****N.B. The Buyer's Premium on this Lot will be 10% + VAT (Total 12%). If purchased via the saleroom.com an additional 5% + VAT will be added 18% TOTAL.****

Note: accompanying the vase is a letter dated 1981 to Mr Cross from auctioneer Mark Bridgford giving details of the consignor's great uncle, a William Hague who lived at The Hollies, Frederick St, Oldham. He was a Cotton Master who had a passion for antiques and the first man in Oldham to own a Rolls-Royce, (and the last to own a horse and carriage). Although it is not known where he purchased the vase in question, Bridgford suggests it is likely he would have known the Pilkington family personally.
