Impregnable on 14 May 1918. He was advanced Boy First Class on 16 November 1918, and was promoted Able Seaman in H.M.S. Dauntless on 23 November 1920. Qualifying as a Diver, he served in H.M.S. Eagle from 18 April 1933 to 31 May 1935, and saw further service during the Second World War. He was finally shore demobilised on 10 September 1945. Sold with copied record of service.

Five: Major C. B. Fitzhenry, 7th Hussars, late South Staffordshire Regiment Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Kirbekan (Lieut: C. B. Fitz-Henry, 1/S. Staffs: R.); Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen, South Africa 1901 (Capt. C. B. Fitz-Henry, 7/Hussars:); British War and Victory Medals (Major C. B. Fitzhenry.); Khedive’s Star, dated 1884-6, mounted as worn, the first with light pitting from star, good fine, otherwise good very fine (5) £700-£900 --- Claude Brittain FitzHenry was born at Litherland, Waterloo, Liverpool, in November 1862, the son of an Irish physician, Edward H. FitzHenry, M.D. Educated at Uppingham, the young FitzHenry was originally commissioned as a Lieutenant in the South Staffordshire Regiment, direct from the Wexford Militia, in May 1884. He subsequently served in the Nile Expedition of 1884-85, including the action at Kirbekan (Medal & 2 clasps; Khedive’s Star), and with the Soudan Field Force during operations on the Upper Nile in 1885-86. Advanced to Captain in February 1891, he transferred to the 7th Hussars in October of the same year and was employed as an instructor at Sandhurst from 1898 to 1900. He served in the South African war between 1899 and 1901, on the Staff and as Brigade Major to an Infantry Brigade. He also took part in the several operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Natal and the Transvaal, between 1900 and 1901 (Queen’s Medal with 4 clasps). FitzHenry resigned his commission shortly afterwards and emigrated to Canada, where he settled at Cobble Hill, south of Duncan, on Vancouver Island. He is recorded in Imperial Vancouver Island’s Who’s Who 1850-1950 as a retired Major who contributed to a patriotic fund in November 1914. Note: Another Egypt and Sudan Medal with the same two clasp, correctly named to ‘Lieut. C. B. Fitzhenry, 7/Dn. Gds.’ was sold in these rooms in February 2016.
An Iron Cross First Class 1939 in Presentation Case with Matching Maker’s Outer Cardboard Box. The Iron Cross is probably an early War production, the pin stamped ‘7’ [Paul Meybauer, Berlin] unissued, and is almost mint apart from some slight tarnishing to the silver rim of the Cross. The case is covered in black artificial leather, with a silver outline of the Cross printed on the flat lid. Inside it is lined on the lower section in white velvet, and white artificial silk in the top is also printed ‘Paul Meybauer Berlin’. Case is about mint. The outer pale cream cardboard box has some slight wear and has printed on the top ‘Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse 1939’ and below that ‘Nur vom Empfanger zu offnen’. On the side is printed the maker’s name ‘Paul Meybauer Berlin SW 68’, extremely fine £300-£400
A German Second World War Admiral Graf Spee Photograph Album. A rare souvenir photograph album of the battleship Admiral Graf Spee. Brown leatherette cover, screwed together on side with reinforced edges, embossed with an outline and the lettering of the Admiral Graf Spee on the cover. Dimensions 36cm x 25cm. The album contains 115 photos and postcards, starting with its first trip to Spain, then the Civil War in Spain, the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph in Lisbon, visit to Gibraltar, Cadiz, Bilbao, Morocco, images in the Atlantic, Buenos Aires, Montevideo. A photograph of the Commandant’s Declaration of War to the crew, practice torpedo shooting, numerous photographs of submarines and other warships. An onboard visit of the Spanish Falange, daily life onboard, photograph of the ship’s aircraft the Arado 96. A photograph of the impact damage of an English shell at the Battle of the River Plate, inspection after the battle, the burial of the 36 dead with ceremony photographs in the German Cemetery in Montevideo. Also some photographs of post war meetings of the former members of the ship, good overall condition £600-£800 --- The Admiral Graf Spee was launched on 30 June 1934 and was sunk in December 1939 following the Battle of the River Plate. Captain Langsdorff scuttled the ship and committed suicide himself on 20 December 1939.

WW2 RAF POW Group of Medals & Photographic Archive Stalag Luft 3. The archive of Flight Lieutenant Jonathan Lomax Bromiley a pilot with 83 Squadron who was shot down in 1942 and held at Stalag Luft 3 and is known to have been one of the camp code writers sending information in letters back home. He was also the subject of one of Lord Haw Haw broadcast the first indication he was a POW. Comprising: Medal Group 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, War Medal, with entitlement name slip. Contained in original forwarding box addressed to "F/Lt J.L. Bromiley Middlesborough.Caterpillar Club original membership card with typed name.Ephemera Archive includes Missing in Action telegram. ... confirmed POW telegrams ... Pages from his POW diary book. ... Transcript of Lord Haw Haw broadcast etc.Photographic Archive Includes formal portrait photographs in uniform ... Photographs with aircraft ... Flight Lieutenant Jonathan Lomax Bromiley was commissioned into the RAF in June 1941 and after training as a pilot was posted to 83 Squadron operating the Handley Page Hampden twin engineed bomber. The Squadron soon converted to the Avro Manchester and it was in this type on the night of 13th March 1942 his aircraft was shot down by night fighters near Nijmegen Holland, of the 7 crew 5 were killed. On the 28th March Lord Haw Haw broadcasted Bromiley's name and described how he was shot down and captured. This would have been the first indication to his family he was safe. Held at Stalag Luft 3 the home of the Great Escape, the archive includes a number of small original photographs of fellow inmates and activities of the camp. He was listed as one of the code writers who hid secret messages within letters home. He was released in 1945 and a document included is addressed to the Russian Commandant of Repatriation Stalag Luft 3 7th May 1945 describing the poor condition of the British prisoners. Parachute Regiment Falklands War Attributed Combat Para Smock. An extremely rare attributed para smock worn by Sergeant Bob Hilton, during the Falklands War a young Squaddie serving with 2 Para at the Battle of Goose Green. The DPM Para smock is the pre 1984 pattern without field dressing pocket to the right arm. To the right sleeve is a Parachute qualification badge and blue cloth square DZ Patch. The smock is with some service wear, but remains in good condition ... Accompanied by Bob's Red Beret, with blackened cap badge, leather sweatband, heavy service wear ... Parachute Regiment waist belt with chrome buckle ... Two snap shot photographs showing him wearing the smock, one with Prince Charles ... Accompanied by a second post 1984 pattern smock worn by Sgt Hilton, this example with both British and Dutch parachute qualification wings ... Also a pair of DPM trousers. Overall GC some service wear. (7 items). A number of photographs and description of Sergeant Hilton's Falklands War Para Smock appears in the book "Denison" (A history of Airborne Smocks) by Bruce Wilson published by Mode Publishing 2013. it states "Bob wore this very garment during the Falklands conflict Bob literally left the training depot and found himself bound for the South Atlantic. He proudly guarded the smock throughout his career in the Regiment". Sergeant Bob Hilton enlisted into the 2nd Bn Parachute Regiment at Brighton 3rd July 1981. Little did he know at the time, that within weeks of finishing and passing out with his Red Beret he would be boarding transport and embarking to war in the South Atlantic. He served throughout the campaign with 2 Para seeing action at the Battle of Goose Green, where the Commanding Officer Colonel H Jones Victoria Cross was killed in action. The Battalion later saw action on Wireless Ridge and along with 3 Para were the first to enter Port Stanley. Returning to the UK his service would see 7 Northern Ireland tours, his last being in 2003 and number serving with the Int Cell. In May 2000 he was deployed to Sierra Leone and served as a Section Commander, his main task to secure the Aberdeen Peninsular outside Freetown for the evacuation of foreign Nationals. Between August and October 2001 he served with the Int Cell during NATO operations in Macedonia and in February 2002 in the same role was deployed to Afghanistan serving with 16 Air Assault Brigade. Bob a war veteran himself understood the importance of tradition and sacrifice his Regiment had made in past conflicts and volunteered for commemoration Parachute jumps to mark the D-Day landings in 1992, 1993, 1994 and the Battle of Arnhem 1994 and 1997.
