An unusual & rare pair of 19th century portrait miniatures believed to be of Rear Admiral John Pasco (1774-1853) & his first wife Rebecca Penfold. Within later frames. Approx 9cm tall. NOTE: John Pasco (1774-1853) was a flag Lieutenant aboard HMS Victory who was responsible for raising Nelson's famous signal 'England Expects'. He advised Admiral Nelson on the precise wording that should be used for raising the signal. He was appointed to HMS Victory in April 1803. He served time in the Mediterranean under Nelson & helped the capture of the French frigate Embuscade. In 1805, during leave from the Mediterranean he married Rebecca Penfold on the 1st September. Rebecca Penfold is believed to be the woman in one of these portrait miniatures. During the Battle of Trafalgar Pasco was severely wounded to the right arm. Due to the consequence of his wound he received a grant from the Lloyd's Patriotic Fund, and was given a pension of £250 a year. From 1805 & 1846 he mainly commanded small ships. He served on HMS Tartarus on the North America station until 1815. After the Napoleonic War, Pasco commanded HMS Lee and was employed to suppress smuggling in the English Channel. During this period he wed second wife Elizabeth Weaver in 1843. In 1846 he was appointed to command HMS Victory, which at this time was the flagship of the Port Admiral in Portsmouth. On the 22nd September 1847, Pasco was promoted to Rear Admiral. Rear Admiral John Pasco died at East Stonehouse, Plymouth on 16th November 1853 and now rests in Stoke Churchyard. More information can be found on the National Museum of the Royal Navy website: http://www.nmrn-portsmouth.org.uk/sites/default/files/John%20Pasco.pdf

A vintage classic 1968 A65L BSA Lightning Motorcycle. Registration number POY 758F. First registered 14th March 1968, frame number A65L 15883 and sold by Pride & Clarke Ltd of London. Beautiful red and chrome colour scheme. Interesting history surrounding the motorcycle; in late 1973 the engine was rebuilt / replaced by an engineer at Rolls Royce using a crankcase from a BSA A50. It is presumed the bike was started for a short time to ascertain that it ran after rebuild. In 1988 the bicycle was sold to the vendor's late husband, and having no garage to store the motorcycle in, it was pushed into the middle room of the house where it stood until being consigned to auction in February 2017. Untouched and unstarted since 1988 (29 years) the motorcycle remains in remarkable condition. Mileage of just 4.1 miles, and many of those acquired via it being rolled into position over it's lifetime. (note: the mileage may change slightly during the natural course of manoeuvring) Many parts appear as new, and the motorcycle hasn't suffered from any of the effects commonly seen with a used example. Comes with both original number plates, and two original green logbooks (one showing the change of engine) and the set of keys. A large folder of history is also supplied with the motorcycle including various BSA manuals, owners books and charts etc and a letter from a previous owner stating the engine change to an A50 crankcase. Note for bidders: Motorcycle is not currently registered, but original logbooks are present. Given the nature of the motorcycle and the fact it has not run for many years buyers are expressly reminded of the need to satisfy themselves as to condition and accuracy of the lot prior to bidding. No guarantees are given nor implied. The final few images show the motorcycle inside the house where it hadn't moved for many years. A rare and impressive example of a 1960's BSA Motorcycle.
