Leather damage to spine head and shelving scuffs to boards with some wear at the edges. There was a paper label at at the top of the front board that has been partially removed.

Renaissance tooled pigskin on boards featuring Terentivs and an image of a king or a knight at the center. Decoration surrounds the image. Marbled paper inside the covers over the first free paper. Gilt titling and decoration on the spine. Inside the front cover is a transferred bookplate for Robert Walpole, Lions Inn, England. Probably taken from the original front freepaper that is not present. Robert Walpole served as the first Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1721-1742. (2)(+20)[616], (+12) (2). Approximate Dimensions:h. 4.5", w. 2.5"Condition:Very bright and presentable example with bright gilt inlay having minor handling/shelf wear to the outer edges. A few foxing spots at the rear free paper helped tone the last original page and the date has been penciled in under the roman numerals

Lot 372

A pair of woodcuts from The Nuremberg Chronicle, the first secular published book. It tells the history of the earth through seven "ages." The first one shows the recto LXVI, this piece shows a fictitious view of the visionary temple of Ezekiel. It includes the first figure of the temple edifice, a second similar figure, and two figures showing the ornamentation of the gate. The verso LXVI shows the ground view of the posterior gate, elevation of the east gate and appendages, and elevation of the north edifice. The second page is from Folio LI and show images of the city of Treviso, near Venice. Both pages are double sided as they were removed from a book. These pieces most likely came from two separate books as there is some slight size difference in the two sheets. There are two editions of the book, the first in Latin and the second in German. Although many towns and cities in Europe and the Near East are illustrated in the book, 49 of them were printed with only 14 different woodblocks. Hartmann Schedel; Anton Koberger published in Nuremberg by Anton Koberger in 1493. Approximate Dimensions:h. 16.5", w. 12.25" - one page, h. 17", w. 11.25" - second pageCondition:Pages have a light crease across bottom third and some toning overall. Some mounting tape present on one sheet from a previous framing. Pages are chipping at edges.

Report of the Dinner Given to Charles Dickens, published by William Crosby and Company, Boston, 1842, February 1, 1842. 66 pages in the original wrappers. Reported by Thomas Gill and William English, reporters on the Morning Post. Most of the speeches revised by their authors. Here is an original example of this rare work, regarding a dinner hosted in Boston where Charles Dickens gave a speech on International Copyright. This work was published following Dickens' first trip to America. His visit brought him to such places as Virginia, Missouri,New York and Massachusetts. He particularly enjoyed the city of Boston, which is where this celebratory dinner was held. It is a faithful account of the speeches made that evening. In attendance at the dinner were Oliver Wendell Holmes, Washington Allston, George Bancroft, and Nathan Hale Jr among many noted literary figures. Also included is The Salem Gazette of March 12, 1847 referencing Dombey and Son. Next is Harpers of June 4, 1859, November 24, 1860, Dec 7,14 and 28th of 1867. Then 2 Dickens supplements to Harpers April 23rd, 1870 and July 23rd, 1870, and June 28, 1873. Also included is the Illustrated London News of June 8, 1870 announcing his passing.
