Nellie Roberts (British 1872-1959), Studies of Orchids, a Pair, Cymbidium Cresta and Cymbidium Chiron (var. Olive), the first dated February 1935, the second March 1936, each monogrammed, watercolour on card and with paper attribution labels verso, unframed (2). 27cm by 19cm Note: Nellie Roberts was appointed official botanical artist to the Orchid Committee of the Royal Horticultural Society in 1897, a role she held for 56 years until 1953. She produced images of orchids which had won awards and was herself awarded the RHS Gold Medal in 1900 and the Veitch Memorial Medal in 1954.

Charles was commissioned as a Commander in 1823 and given his first command - HMS Chanticleer - in 1824. He was appointed Captain in 1826 whilst serving on the Mediterranean Station.
