Victorian Rowing Medals: Cambridge University, Head of the River silver prize medal in glazed silver mount, mount engraved 1882 BOW H. ARMYTAGE, 52mm, and Henley Royal Regatta, Grand Challenge Cup silver-gilt medal, similarly mounted and engraved 1885 3 H. Armytage, 50mm, some tarnishing, good extremely fine; similarly mounted but unnamed medals for Cambridge ‘L’Arking Challenge Sculls’ in silver, glass cracked and Cambridge Athletics, in bronze; and engraved plaques (2), both naming Armytage, the first listing the winning Jesus College Head of the River crew of 1883 in silver and the second for Cambridge University Athletics, 1882, in bronze. The lot now includes a named black and white photograph of 'Jesus 1st Boat', dated May 1887, with two additional medals, and one additional engraved plaque. (10 items in the lot)

[EARLY RAILWAY INTEREST] - A COLLECTION OF 6 FINE HAND-COLOURED EARLY 19TH CENTURY RAILWAY AQUATINTS BY THOMAS TALBOT BURY AND PUBLISHED BY R ACKERMANN Comprising the following : Entrance Into Manchester across Water Street; Railway Office Liverpool; Taking in water at Parkside (The Station where Mr Huskisson fell); Bridge over the Canal near Kings Langley; Viaduct at Watford; View taken from under the Hampstead Road Bridge. The first three dated 1831 and believed to be from Bury's 'Coloured Views on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, published that year. The last three are all dated 1837 and have a captioned title 'LONDON AND BIRMINGHAM RAILROAD' at the top of each plate. All mounted/loosely mounted, and generally clean (6) ++as described, please request details on any specific engraving if required
ϒA Regency rosewood and brass marquetry side table, circa 1815, attributed to Gillows, the rectangular top with rounded ends above a bead moulded frieze with concealed slide, the trestle ends with spindle supports above a brass marquetry tablet, the out swept legs at the base terminating in gilt brass caps and castors, 75cm high, 77cm wide, 51cm deep For a similar example of table, see Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, 1730-1840, Antique Collectors Club, 2008, page 301, plate 329. According to Susan Stuart’s book several tables with spindle-ends were drawn in the Gillows estimate books from 1818 onwards in varying designs. The use of brass line inlay is also a feature on rosewood furniture produced by the firm during this period in the first quarter of the 19th century.
