Tank Corps. An historically important group to the Tank Corps. BWM. VM. officially impressed: 200581 Pte. H. Rothera Tank C. These mounted in a contemporary frame with a T/Cps Cap Badge & IWM photo of Tank 'C1' 'Champagne, lying wrecked on the battlefield following its destruction during the attack on 15/9/16 as part of the No 1 section of 'C' Company attack on Courcelletle. C1 led the attack. Herbert Rothera & Tank C1 are well covered in the 'The First Tank Crews' by S. Pope. & The Tanks at Flers. The group is accompanied by a fine large scratch model of C1 complete with plates with the names of the Crew, and an original painting of 'C1. Champagne' in action a group to a member of the Tank Corps who participated in the First Tank Battle in World History & who drove the leading Tank. Outstanding & rare lot. Rothera was wounded at Arras. He served with 'C' Bn at Ypres & Cambrai Picture '24' & '18'. Very fragile (qty)
