Rare cast-iron Victorian'Automatic Tennis Ball Cleaner' manufactured by "H. J. Gray & Sons Ltd. Cambridge." Measuring 35.0 cm h x 21.0 cm. wide^ the apparatus consists of a large cylindrical drum inside which an arrangement of brushes provide an abrasive surface to clean lawn tennis balls. The balls are inserted via an aperture at the top^ the side handle is turned and the balls are pulled through the mechanism. They are ejected from the apparatus through a small sliding trap door beneath. The idea was first patented by John Osmond of Clifton^ Kent^ on 30th November 1887. Several manufacturers^ including Spalding^ Ash and Gray himself later made similar devices. In full working order. Gray's details are cast into the surface of the device. Supplied with an A4 copy of the original specification drawing (2)

1953 MCC Tour to the West Indies scrapbook with original photographs^ of individuals and team^ a signed Godfrey Evans photograph^ signed scorecard (12) signatures including Compton^ Hutton^ Moss^ Lock^ Spooner^ Statham^ Bailey and more^ includes newspaper cutting^ individual and team original photographs (20) all together^ all stuck neatly into an album and very well presented. Note: The English cricket team in the West Indies in 1953–54 played five Test matches^ five other first-class matches and seven other games^ three of them on a two-week stop-over in Bermuda that included Christmas. Ultimately the tour could be considered a success for England in cricketing terms^ as they came back from 2–0 down to draw the series 2–2 against strong opposition. However the tour had its problems^ both on and off the field. The West Indians were disappointed by the English party's reluctance to socialise and the defensive nature of much of their cricket. The English players were dissatisfied with the quality of some of the umpiring. There was crowd trouble at two of the Tests. Lock was called for throwing in the first Test

1930 Australia Cricket tour of England fixture list signed by team to the rear with 17 signatures incl Bradman^ Woodfull^ Beckett^ Kippax^ Wall^ Fairfax^ Hornibrook^ Oldfield^ Jackson^ Richardson^ McCabe^ Walker^ Hurwood^ Grimmett^ Ponsford^ Kelly and Howard all in ink and clear to the rear^ the list in VG condition throughout. Note: The seventeenth Australian team to visit this country accomplished a very fine performance. They not only achieved the great object of the tour by winning the rubber and so regaining possession of The Ashes but^ in the course of thirty-one engagements against first-class sides^ they were beaten but once-in the opening Test Match at Nottingham This particular tour will always be remembered by reason of the amazing batting successes which attended the efforts of Bradman.

I hope you have not been inconvenienced' signed H.D.G Leveson Gower^ t/w a postcard of C.B Fry (captain) Sussex unsigned (2). Note: Sir Henry Dudley Gresham Leveson Gower^ an English cricketer who played first class cricket for Oxford University and Surrey and captained England in Test cricket. His final first-class match was for his own Team v Cambridge U in 1931. He captained the MCC team to South Africa 1909/10^ leading England in three Tests on that tour. In 1953 he was knighted for his services to cricket.
