Nadezhda, "Miles Davis study", unframed acrylic on canvas, 2020, 14 x 14cm. As part of my series of paintings of musicians which I created during the first 2020 lockdown, I made some small studies of Miles Davis' face. This small portrait is taken from a period in his life when he was suffering greatly, and I have captured that troubled and intense expression in his eyes. He had a very troubled start to his life and was by all accounts a very difficult man, yet he found an outlet through music and gave his great heart in musical expression. I admire people who transcend their suffering and transmute it into a form which brings so much joy to others. My portraits are a celebration of the human spirit. I made a short video of the process of creating this painting. Located in Exeter, UK delivery £15.
Clara Aden, "Redefining identity series", unframed oil on canvas, 2019-20, 20 x 15cm each. My ABC definition of identity is who you are, how you chose to represent yourself, everyone's perception of you and where you come from. I started a research project before the covid19 pandemic titled "Redefining Identity: The changing form of female gender in a global world. This series of work is one of the 20 artworks I created for the project. Based on Lawrence kohlbery's cognitive development theory there is acquisition of gender roles as a result of gender constancy. Children's understanding of the irreversibility of their sex. At the age of 2 to 3 years they become aware of one's own gender and that of others. At the age of 3 to 7 years they realise that they are male or female and are aware of the gender of others. Around ages 5 to 6 they learn to classify themselves as male and female. My twin daughter Debbie is the muse for this series of artworks, I find my children as a fountain of inspiration, not only are they the first to see or hear the ideas, they also actually help me direct my project. Located in Lagos, UK shipping £120.

Raymond Balfe, "Cottage in Santa Lucia", unframed oil on canvas, 2021, 60 x 50cm. The first thing that struck me about this lovely cottage in Santa Lucia was the thatch roof, which reminded me of my homeland, Ireland. The owner graciously allowed me to use his property to work on my paintings. Located in Spain, shipping to the UK £75.
Olowookere David Ayobami, "The Tuaregs I", unframed oils on canvas, 2020, 16in x 20in each. The Tuareg people are a large berber ethnic confederation, they principally inhabit the sahara in a cast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali, and Burkina faso. Traditionally nomadic pastoralists, small group of Tuareg are also found in northern Nigeria. The Tuaregs have been called the "blue people" for the indigo dye coloured clothes they traditionally wear and which stains their skin. History has revealed that the most commented upon custom of the Tuaregs is the veiling (anagad) of their men. The veiling of Tuareg men is not only an ancient custom but has probably always been the most dominant symbol of "Tuaregness". Recently, the veil is worn by all Tuaregs men from puberty throughout their adult lives. An adolescent boy's (elmengoudi) first wearing of the veil is always a family ceremonial occasion marking his first initiation or 'passage' from adolescence to adulthood. Throughout the adult life, a man would rarely be unveiled. Located in Nigeria, UK shipping cost £95.

Terry Chip, "Shinder the scriptwriter", unframed acrylic on deep box canvas, 2014, 76 x 76cm. Shinder the Scriptwriter is one of a series of paintings of people put in a box – pigeon-holed by their job description. The deep shadows suggest that there is much more to a person than first appears. At the time of painting Shinder was developing a script based on David Bowie lyrics and a few lines from Space Oddity are embedded in the dark background. Located in Doncaster, UK delivery £120.
Steve Blades, "2020", unframed acrylic and silk based paint on deep edge canvas, 2021, 36 x 28in. My inspiration behind this painting was to try and show the real and raw emotions felt by - I believe - all people throughout the world in the year 2020. With it being a first of its kind - worldwide pandemic - it ultimately lead to a worldwide felt emotion, that I then used to create this piece - with that very same emotion. I see this painting placed in a ‘Reflection museum’ of the year 2020, Or simply placed in any one of our homes, to remind us not only what we’ve all shared and been through - but what we have all overcome! Located in Essex, UK delivery for £25.
