Victorian education - in Denchworth village, Oxfordshire/Berkshire in Denchworth village, Oxfordshire/Berkshire.- National School [Daily Log Book], manuscript in several hands, 500pp., first and last ff. soiled and stained, one of two ff. small tears, browned, disbound, spine worn, sm. 4to, 19th January 1863 - 13th February 1891. An important social and family history record for this small village and its inhabitants. The manuscript begins with recording that it had 39 pupils with twice as many girls as boys. Corporal punishment was rife and one pupil, Drusilla Alder was expelled in June 1864 for repeatedly swearing, lying and stealing. Being a small agricultural village the boys took time off school to work in the fields at harvest time.

[1990s]. A film treatment of Thomas's erotic novel, published in 1981. Many attempts were made to make the novel into a film. These included attempts by Bernardo Bertolucci with Barbra Streisand, by David Lynch with Isabella Rossellini, by Simon Monjack with Brittany Murphy, and by Emir Kusturica with Nicole Kidman and Terrence Malick.
