*The Beatles. A set of Beatles autographs obtained 23 October 1963, signed one above the other in blue ballpoint pen on a plain piece of card, additionally inscribed ÔBeatlesÕ by Paul McCartney at head, written to the verso of an Air France carte de presentation card with date 23/10/63 written in ballpoint, 15 x 10 cm (6 x 4 ins), together with a Souvenir Programme for ÔThe Beatles Christmas ShowÕ, [1963], 24pp including stapled pictorial wrappers, covers slightly creased and marked, slim 4to, plus an original pressing of the LP Beatles for Sale (Parlophone PMC 1240, gatefold sleeve, mono), some light surface scratches to record, covers creased and corners bumped. The autographs were obtained in person by a family member then working for Air France. The Beatles Bible (online) confirms that on 23 October 1963, the band finished their final recording session for ÔWith the BeatlesÕ before flying to Sweden for their first foreign tour. -3

An autographed manuscript sermon initialled ÔC.K.Õ, (given at Trinity Church, Chester, 1870), 22 pp. with numerous corrections and revisions, based on Genesis XLII.18 ÒI fear GodÓ, additionally initialled W.H. upper left margin, first and last leaf sl. frayed, lightly stitched at left margin, oblong 8vo, together with another in KingsleyÕs hand on the conversion of St. Paul with additional manuscript note and initials W.H. tipped on, plus one further draft sermon seemingly in KingsleyÕs holograph based on Judges V.24, 9 pp., plus five further manuscript sermons, four in the same unidentified hand, the fifth possibly in a third unidentified hand but with upper wrapper (torn away) initialled C.K. and titled Ô1 Cor. III.16 Whit Sunday afternoon May 26 1844, EversleyÕ, mostly 10/15 pp., some fraying, stapled or stitched, slim 8vo/oblong 8vo. Kingsley became rector of Eversley, Hampshire in 1844. (7)

An original hand-painted cell depciting Bart Simpson with an open pop-up book, 20th Century Fox, [1992], image area 15.5 x 8cm (6 x 3ins), signed in purple by Nancy Cartwright (BartÕs voice actor) in blank cell area to left of his feet, framed and glazed with printed official information label to verso, overall 36 x 41cm (14 x 16ins). From Treehouse of Horror III, (Season 4, Episode 5, 29 October 1992). Bart: ÒFrom A-apple to Z-zebra, ÔBabyÕs First Pop-up BookÕ is twenty-six pages of alphabetic adventureÓ. [edited by Ralph Gordon Noel Milbanke, Earl of Lovelace], Strictly Private, 1st ed., printed for the Descendants of Lord and Lady Byron by William Clowes and Sons, 1887, half-title/limitation leaf with ms. ownership inscription ÔJohn C. Fox, Goring on Thames. Given to me by Mary Countess of Lovelace, 14 September 1922Õ, and beneath in a different hand ÔGiven to C. Draper by Miss Elsie Fox 1961Õ, some pencilled marginalia, floral endpapers, free endpapers browned, hinges split, untrimmed, orig. boards with printed paper spine label, spine rubbed, with sl. loss to ends and joints cracked, 8vo, with ms. letter paper-clipped to front free endpaper from Mary Theophilus, the sister of Elsie Fox, to C. Draper, dated 23-10-65, saying that her sisterÕs death was a great shock, and that Ôas she gave you the book some years ago it is still yours to do with it as you like bestÕ. Mary Caroline, Countess of Lovelace, daughter of the Rt. Hon. James Stuart-Wortley, married Ralph Gordon Noel Milbanke, the 2nd Earl of Lovelace in 1880, who was the third child of William King-Noel, 1st Earl of Lovelace and his wife, Ada Lovelace, the only legitimate daughter of Lord Byron. Byron scholar Sir John Charles Fox discussed the separation of Lord and Lady Byron in his book ÔThe Byron MysteryÕ, published in 1924. Of ÔLady Noel Byron and the LeighsÕ Wise states ÒI suppose this must be the most hopelessly unobtainable book in the whole series of Byroniana, surpassing in rarity even Lord BroughtonÕs ÔContemporary Account of the Separation of Lord and Lady ByronÕ, privately printed in 1870, and the first edition of Lady ByronÕs ÔRemarksÕÓ. Wise goes on to assert that of the thirty-six copies printed only a few were distributed, and Òthe larger proportion of the issue was destroyedÓ. (1)

Gaskell 4a & 5a. The first Baskerville octavo publication, published concurrently with the quarto edition of the same work. (2)

Comprising: The Banquet, parts 1 & 2; Philebus, parts 1 & 2; Meno; The Rivals (2 copies); Io; The Lesser Hippias. Floyer Sydenham (1710-1787) was a Greek scholar and a Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, who devoted himself to translating the works of Plato. His translations of the ÔDialoguesÕ were the first English translations of most of them; they were first published separately (1759-1780) and subsequently collected, and are not commonly found complete. Written Original in French, and now Done into English, printed for William Whitwood, 1686, pp.[ii]+243+[8], lacking A1 (half-title?), title-page soiled and detached with sl. loss to edges, B1 with loss to upper outer corner (affecting headline and first two lines of text), disbound and text block in two pieces, sm. 8vo. Wing P3207aA. Extremely rare. Wing locates three copies (University of Illinois, Library of Congress, Yale University). Some references to the book state eight unnumbered leaves at rear, some eleven; our copy has text on verso of final leaf (following ÔFinisÕ on recto) which has had the rear free endpaper pasted to it.
