Quantity of First World War German Kreigsmarine U-Boat related ephemera to Capitan Leutant Otto Weddigen to include two portrait postcards, copies of Illustrated War October 21st 1914 and March 31st 1915 showing photographs of him and his U-Boat crew of U-9, together with two silver Otto Weddigen medallions one for U-9 and U-29 other dated 22nd September 1914 top right with portrait of sinking ship, further print scene of U-9 returning to port after action on 22nd September 1914 together with a book about the life of Otto Weddigen by Heinrich Richter.**Otto Widdigen joined the Kaiserliche Marine in 1901. In 1910 he was given command of one of the first German submarines, U-9. On 22nd September 1944 while patrolling the region of the southern North Sea know to the British as Broad 14's, U-9 intercepted three warships of the 7th Cruiser Squadron, Widdegen fired off all six of his torpedoes, reloaded whilst submerged and in less than an hour sank the three British armoured cruisers HMS Aboukir, HMS Hogue and HMS Cressy. 62 Officers and 1397 men were killed, only 837 survived. Widdigen was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st Class.
