British Churchill Mark V, Cromwell and Centaur Tank Artillery Gun Sight WWII, first year of production, British No48 x 3 L MKI.S. tank Howitzer sighting scope. It was manufactured by A.K.& S. in 1944 and was designed to be used on the British 95mm howitzer and with the BESA 7.92mm machine gun. The 95mm tank howitzer was first introduced in 1944 and was fitted to the Churchill Mark V and VIII, the Cromwell VI & VIII and the Centaur IV tanks. This example is production O.S. 1019 G.A.No. 213. Below this is the military broad arrow acceptance stamp. The lens in in good condition with fractures and still retaining its rubber eye cover and handle.

The second: “Liverpool, 4th October 1879-To Mr. Alfred Quilliam – Sir, In Consideration of you having this day purchased from me the picture entitled The Scotch Gillie, I hereby warrant that the picture is by Sir E. Landseer R. A. It was bought by me from Mr. J. B. Carlile of Scarboro – Yours truly, William Harme (?), witnessed by William Radlcliffe”.
