Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Ionmeto Patrol Boat" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvasboard. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which was published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c Ionmeto stamp and First Day Cover issued February 15, 1992. Rich treasures in the form of abundant fisheries can be found in the lucid waters off the Marshall Islands. To protect them, the Republic of the Marshall Islands launched the patrol boat Ionmeto in 1988. She has sailed the islands since that time acting as a deterrent to those who are unlawful and as an aid to those in distress. With the classic lines of the patrol boats of World War II, the Ionmeto can carry a crew of 12. And with a fuel capacity of 9,000 gallons, the Ionmeto is able to ride the swells and patrol outside the reefs for long periods of time. Her high-tech radar, radio and sensing equipment makes her a poacher's nemesis. Image Size: 12.75 x 20 in. Overall Size: 16 x 20 in. Unframed. (B13573)

Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Mobil Eagle Majuro Oil Tanker" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvas Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 50c Souvenir Sheet and First Day Cover for the Mobil Eagle Majuro issued August 25, 1993. On August 25, 1993, the commanding oil tanker Eagle was christened under the ship registry of the Marshall Islands. This state-of-the-art vessel is fitted with advanced navigation systems, including an integrated bridge, and a fully-automated engine room. Built by Mobil to meet the exacting guidelines of the U.S. Oil Pollution Act of 1990, this magnificent vessel is equipped with a double hull to better protect the marine environment. This is especially vital to the citizens of the Marshall Islands, who glean much of their food from the fish-laden waters surrounding their tropical atolls. That nation's concern for the preservation of marine life was a key factor in permitting the Eagle to fly the Marshallese flag. The artwork also highlights the double-hull construction of the tanker. Image Size: 20 x 24 in. Overall Size: 20 x 24 in. Unframed. (B14441)

Mel Crawford (Canadian, B. 1925) "Great Seal of Alaska" Signed lower right. Original oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which was published on the Fleetwood Great Seal of the State of Alaska Commemorative Cover issued January 3, 1984. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States and for nearly fifty years the region was known as the District of Alaska. While Alaska was still a district, the first governor designed a seal for the district. This seal featured icebergs, northern lights, igloos and an Eskimo ice fishing. In 1910, this seal was replaced with a design more representative of the state's industrial and natural wealth. Today, this seal, created by an "unnamed draftsman," is the state seal of Alaska. The rays above the mountains represent the famous Alaskan northern lights. The smelter symbolizes mining, the train stands for Alaska's railroads, and the ships denote transportation by sea. The trees pictured in the seal symbolize Alaska's wealth of timber, and the farmer, his horse and the three shocks of wheat stand for Alaskan agriculture. The fish and the seals signify the importance of fishing and seal rookeries to Alaska's economy. The state seal of Alaska is a fine representation of the vast wealth of the forty-ninth state. Image Size: 12 x 12 in. Overall Size: 15 x 15 in. Unframed. (B08542)

Mel Crawford (Canadian, B. 1925) "Woman in Grocery Store" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 20c Consumer Education stamp issued April 27, 1982. America's economic system has long been accustomed to the competitive pressures that call for greater business effectiveness, and to internal company pressures that call for greater business efficiency. Only recently, however, have our producers of consumer items experienced the intensity of external pressures that call for greater business responsiveness to the consumer. Indeed, consumer education has made its mark on business. Consumer education, although not of recent origin, has grown substantially in magnitude and impact in the past decade due to an emergence of numerous federally legislated and private consumer awareness groups. In general, a number of government bureaus aid consumers in making prudent and economical purchases, stimulate interest in the problems of consumers, and give information concerning the use and care of consumers' goods. In addition to federally initiated consumer education, various private consumer organizations promote consumer education by testing and rating merchandise, preparing and distributing materials to be used in consumer education programs, lending support and lobbying for legislation favorable to the consumer, providing films that deal with consumer education, and directly advising consumers what items to buy. Mel Crawford (Canadian, B. 1925) "Singapore" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover of the U.N. 20c Singapore Flags of the U.N. Series stamp issued September 25, 1981. The fabled nation of Singapore, encompassing a group of small islands off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, has long played a role in world affairs disproportionate to its size. Because Singapore stands athwart one of the premier passageways between the Indian and Pacific oceans, it has served for centuries as a crossroad for the world's sea traffic. Her modern history begins with the Englishman Thomas Raffles. Raffles acquired the island of Singapore from the Malay Sultan of Johore in 1819. Soon, the foundations for a modern city were laid out, with the purpose of transforming a sleepy fishing village into a trade-free emporium of global significance. Raffles' dream was soon realized, for by the middle nineteenth century Singapore had become a major port, as well as an important part of Great Britain's eastern empire. Singapore went on to attain complete independence, and to achieve even greater economic prosperity. Providing merchant ships with such services as transport, banking, storage, repair, communications, and insurance, this tiny nation has developed a reputation as one of the most valuable "middlemen" in Asia. Her people, who are primarily of Chinese origin, enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the East. The literacy rate is impressive, and health facilities and related services are outstanding, making Singapore an excellent place to live and work -- and a colorful, exciting place to visit, for people who happen to be passing between oceans. Paul Calle (1928 - 2010) and Chris Calle (B. 1961) "1940s - Aviation Assumes Strategic Importance" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting originally appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands The 20th Century series 60c Aviation Assumes Strategic Importance stamp issued November 16, 1998. On July 10, 1940, Adolf Hitler ordered Germany's Luftwaffe to begin an assault on Great Britain in anticipation of a full-scale invasion of the island nation. The struggle for air supremacy would become famous as the Battle of Britain. For the first time in history, airplanes -- without the support of armies or navies -- were relied on to destroy an enemy's capacity to resist. Royal Air Force pilots shot down two German planes for every one of their own lost. By the end of October, the disillusioned Fuhrer had postponed the invasion indefinitely. Throughout the course of World War II, many of U.S. General Billy Mitchell's predictions about the important role air power would play became fact. These included strategic bombardment, mass airplane operations, and the eclipse of the battleship by the bomb-carrying airplane. Image Size: 10.25 x 13.75 in. Overall Size: 13 x 22 in. Unframed. (B16236 / B16237)

Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which was published on the MIPS First Day Cover for the Marshall Islands 80c Titov stamp issued April 12, 2001. Gherman S. Titov: The youngest man to journey into space, 25-year-old cosmonaut Gherman Titov became the first man to make multiple orbits around the Earth. On August 6, 1961, aboard Vostok II, Titov used manual controls and documented his journey with a movie camera, shooting amazing pictures of the Earth from space. Image Size: 7 x 9.25 in. Shannon Stirnweis (Arizona, New York, New Hampshire Oregon, B. 1931) "Fort Henry" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Canada 32c Fort Henry stamp issued June 30, 1983. Once the early explorers and settlers of Canada had established roots in the New World, they soon realized they must somehow protect their holdings. But, whether they came from France, England ... or from any of the other great European nations, they could not expect aid to arrive quickly from an army or navy stationed thousands of miles away in the Mother Country. Therefore, it became necessary for the nations to erect forts in the New World to protect the territories their explorers and settlers had claimed for the homeland. One fort built to guard British interests in Canada was Fort Henry. Fort Henry was erected in 1813 and is located at Kingston, Ontario, on a strategically important peninsula where the British operated an important port and naval base on the St. Lawrence River. It was the only fort to be built of a series of six detached casemated redoubts which were planned to be built in the early nineteenth century at this location. Over the years, Fort Henry was gradually enlarged, and after the construction of the Rideau Canal, the fort was replaced by a new stone fort, completed in 1836. Fort Henry was garrisoned until 1890, but it later fell into disuse. However, in 1939, it ws completely restored and today is a popular tourist attraction. Image Size: 19.5 x 17 in. Overall Size: 23 x 19.75 in. Unframed. (B08177)

Stanley Paine (British, B. 1934) "Exeter Mail Coach" Signed lower left. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Great Britain 16p Exeter Mail Coach stamp issued July 31, 1984. On the night of October 20, 1816, the Exeter Mail Coach, which normally ran from Exeter to London, had left its stop at Sailsbury and was proceeding across Salisbury Field. Suddenly the horses began to get nervous and fidgety. Peering into the darkness, the coachmen and passengers saw the mysterious figure of an animal following the team. Not too concerned, they simply assumed it was a large calf and continued on their way. The animals stayed with them. As the Coach pulled into the Pheasant Inn -- also known as the Winterslow Hut -- the creature lunged out of the night, leaping ferociously at the offside leader of the team. The attacker was a hungry lioness which had escaped from a traveling menagerie staying overnight at the inn. The guard and coachment tried to deal with the situation which had taken them by surprise. But, as the guard raised his blunderbuss to shoot the lioness, a voice cried out in the darkness -- it was the owner of the show. He pointed his pistol at the guard's head promsing to shoot if the beast was killed. Astonished passengers ran for the inn, bolting the door behind them. Adding to the madness, a large dog seized the lioness, starting a terrible fight betwen them. Eventually the lioness took refuge behind some stones nearby and her owner and trainer were able to rescue her. The horse recovered and soon was delivering the mail again. But the dramatic incident has often been recounted in the years since it occurred. Image Size: 6 x 7 in. Overall Size: 10.75 x 12 in. Unframed. (B08873)

Tom McNeely (Canadian, B. 1935) "Gone with the Wind" Signed lower right. Original watercolor painting on Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 25c "Gone with the Wind" stamp issued March 23, 1990. Producer David O. Selznick predicted that his own obituary would begin "Gone With the Wind... " and though Selznick continued to make movies for another twenty-six years, 1939's Gone With the Wind was undoubtedly his greatest triumph. The unforgettable masterpiece based on Margaret Mitchell's compelling novel of the Civil War South with sterling performances by Clark Gable as the dashing Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as the spoiled beauty, the film received ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress -- Vivien Leigh -- and Best Supporting Actress -- Hattie McDaniel, the first black to win an Oscar. Nearly three years of extensive advance publicity -- more than any other film of the time -- virtually guaranteed the success of the film. Despite the aura of excitement and anticipation, however, Gone With the Wind was almost not made. Selznick at first rejected the novel's story as too long and involved for the big screen, and passed up the movie rights. Only after a change of heart did Selznick translate the novel into the longest film made to that date -- 3 hours and 39 minutes. But it was not too long for the often critical public -- the film brought in record-breaking ticket sales. Now, over fifty years after its original release, the movie's popularity is undiminished. Gone With the Wind has become an American institution which thrills new generations the world over. Image Size: 24.25 x 19.75 in. Overall Size: 24.25 x 21.25 in. Unframed. (B11907)

Chuck Ripper (American, B. 1929) "Two Giraffes" Signed lower left. Original Gouache painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Buzzards soar high above the savannah, searching for carrion. Seeking prey, a cheetah scans the horizon. Lions nap in the afternoon sun, while Cape buffalo seek the coolness of area water holes. Many animals live in Africa, but none more unique than the giraffe. Often called "the animal built by committee," the giraffe looks as if it was put together from spare parts. As ungainly as it may appear, the giraffe is nevertheless one of the most widespread, successful herbivores of the African plains. Its extremely long neck and forelegs allow the giraffe to access foliage beyond the reach of other mammals. It has a tongue that can extend 18 inches to gather food, and plate-sized hooves which it uses as weapons to defend its young. A kick from the front feet of a giraffe can quickly kill a lion. As humans can be identified from their fingerprints, so too, can the giraffe be distinguished by its coat -- each has its own unique pattern. While its senses of hearing and smell are highly developed, the giraffe's most acute sense is sight. Giraffes spend much of their time in the company of zebra, elands and wildebeests, with a mutual "lookout for danger" policy protecting all. With its keen eyesight and high vantage point, the giraffe is often the first to spot approaching danger. Usually only one calf is born to each cow. A giraffe calf at birth may stand six feet tall and weigh 130 pounds, nurses and runs within an hour of its birth. Image Size: 14.5 x 12.5 in. Overall Size: 18 x 16 in. Unframed. (B13702)

A fine Victorian burr walnut, tulipwood crossbanded and purplewood breakfront wardrobe attributed to Holland & Sons In the Louis XVI style and applied with gilt bronze mounts, the shaped moulded cornice with four turned finials and a riband tied swagged frieze; above a bevelled mirrored door enclosing three slides, three short and two long drawers; flanked by a pair of panelled cupboard doors each enclosing a rail and hooks, all flanked by reeded pilasters, on a moulded plinth base, with paper depository label to one side for 'R.B.Petre 8/8/29', 254cm wide, 61cm deep, 277cm high. The wardrobe offered here undoubtedly formed part of a significant commission of bedroom furniture of high quality for a client who currently remains untraced. The presence of a 1929 storage label which bears the inscribed name R.B Petre would seem likely to indicate that it was handled by R.B Petre in his capacity as a prominent liquidator in early 20th century London. Petre's name has been recorded in contemporary news paper advertising as instructing various sales of property by auction. The above lot is typical of the high quality work produced in the Louis XVI style that Holland and Sons produced in the 1860s and 1870s. The gilt metal mounts utilised on the above lot appear on documented pieces by the firm including the well known commission in the 1860s by Mr R N Thornton, illustrated in R.W Symonds, B.B Whineray Victorian Furniture, London 1962. Under William Holland the firm became cabinetmakers and upholsterers to the Queen, their first commission being for Osborne House in 1845, supplying furniture in the Queen's favoured Louis XVI style. Hollands participated in many of the important International Exhibitions including London in 1862, Vienna in 1873 and Paris in 1867 and 1872 again exhibiting pieces in the favoured Louis XVI style. The Holland's labelled day books are now housed in the National Archive of Art and Design in London and present a virtual 'who's who' of 19th century society.
