Joseph Hughes Clayton (British, active 1891-1929) - Pair of watercolour Paintings. 'In with the Catch' and 'When the Tide is Low'. Both depict Fishermen and fishing boats from a rocky shoreline at Cemaes Bay, Anglesea, North Wales. Autumn colours. One painting is outside a cottage, closer than usual, possibly his own. Signed in opposing corners 'J. Hughes Clayton'. Both paintings removed from frames. A wealth of notes and a beautiful signature in pencil on reverse of both(See notes). Titled and some painting notes. Total board sizes are 41.25cm x 21.25cm and 41cm x 21.25cm. Note* - On reverse of both works, is written what appears to be 'J.W.Dodd'. There is a first World War hero named 'John William Dodd' born in Cheshire, who was 18 when he died and would have been one year older than our artist. A possible link.Joseph Hughes Clayton was a prominent member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in the late 19th century. He worked mainly on the North Wales coast and Anglesey producing sentimental studies of the fishing community particularly at Cemaes Bay where he owned a cottage. He also Lived in Liverpool and Cheshire. He exhibited paintings at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool.Joseph Hughes Clayton (Prydeinig, gweithredol 1891-1929) - Pâr o baentiadau dyfrlliw. Rare Arundel Club London 1904 - Annual subscribers print collection. (Part Set 11 of 15) First Year of Publication. Included are No. 1 - Raphael, No. 2 - Gerard David, No. 4 - Francesco Da Rimini, No. 6 - Antwerp School and a further 7 x Prints which have pencil numbers in top right hand corner, but no other identification. As first edition, possibly prototype or trail run. CONDITION - Prints are generally excellent with minor foxing on some. The paper cover has wear and marks, remnants of the outer card wallet. NOTES - From 1904 The Arundel Club did an annual series of reproductions taken from Old Masters paintings. Paintings mostly from private collections. Each year they produced around fifteen to twenty. Protective paper cover, printed titles and housed in paper folder detailing contents. Distributed to it's members. The Arundel Society Notes - Founded in London in 1849 and named after the Earl of Arundel, the famous collector of the Arundel Marbles. Originally the idea of the lawyer Bellenden Ker. The society was discontinued in 1897 and it would be seven years before the 'Club' was formed. Also known as "Arundel Society for Promoting the Knowledge of Art"

Tourist postcards and photographs, which include Malta, quite a number of very scantily clad dancers "mess pin ups" almost outnumbering aircraft images. Humphrys Francis, (1879-1971) British Officer, Colonial Administrator and High Commissioner in the Kingdom of Iraq 1929-32 and as the first British Ambassador to Iraq 1932-35 following the country's independence. Signed typed letter indicating that he had passed on Ian Malcolm's message of sympathy following the untimely death of King Faisal and dated 21st September 1933 on British Embassy notepaper. Interesting item.

No obvious sign of scratches or fungus. Aperture: Working smoothly through stops. Cosmetic: Dent / flat spot on the outer edge of the lens and a small dent on the inner edge. Both are cosmetic only and don't appear to effect the workings of the lens. Some scratches to the lens cap front.
