Eglington Collection, Hammerwich. Literature Illustrated H. H. Cotterell, Old Pewter, Its Makers and Marks, London, 1969, p. 120, pl. LII, fig. C 'Rose-Water' bowls appear from the 16th century onwards. They were used as finger bowls to rinse the grease from diners fingers whilst at the table, a fine example such a this would have belonged to a wealthy owner. H. H. Cotterell (op.cit) dates this example at circa 1620.
