[Fielding (Sarah)] The Governess; or, The Little Female Academy, seventh edition, ex-library copy with accession label to pastedown and stamp to title, 20th century cloth, rubbed, 12mo,1789.⁂ Written by the sister of Henry Fielding, The Governess is a collection of stories all taking place in a school run by Miss Teachum. The British Library describes it as "perhaps the first school story" and it is important in being one of the earliest fictional works for children, with other 18th century works for the young tending towards the instructional rather than the entertaining.
