The first edition was reputedly published in Frankfurt and Leipzig in 1715 and a second edition in Frankfurt in 1728, with a slightly altered title, but Baillie knows of no copies of either. Only one copy of the work (this edition) listed on COPAC, in the National Library of Scotland. ÒThis is a mysterious book, as there is no known English work from which it can be translated, nor is there known any William Manley connected with horology. The book is well written and deserved its four editions.Ó Baillie
