BILLY'S ORIGINAL JACKET WORN FOR 1ST DEATH CULT PHOTO SHOOT. Also worn during his time with Theatre of Hate. Referencing the photos in which he is wearing the jacket “These were taken on that first Death Cult photo shoot with just me and Ian. The full length shot really shows me taking on the military chic popular in Post ‘Apocalypse Now’ Britain especially in London and for fans of Theatre of Hate. The grey jacket is a British 1960’s helicopter pilot flight jacket which was the same as the one worn by Kirk Brandon (from TOH) though his had a non-authentic but cool British ‘Airborne’ insignia patch”.
HANDWRITTEN LYRICS/GUITAR NOTATION. Assorted notepad pages, each bearing handwritten lyrics/guitar notations. “This is an interesting lot as the first couple are from my early teens working out the words to Status Quo’s “Don't Waste My Time” and Bowie’s “Suffragette City”. The rest are the arrangements to a stack of Coloursound songs written up to help us prepare for live shows a while after they'd been recorded.”
BILLY'S DENIM JACKETS. Two vintage 'Lee - Stormrider' denim jackets, worn frequently by Billy. One measures 44 regular, the other 46 regular. “In the world of vintage clothing these blanket lined Lee Storm Rider Jackets were quite collectable, especially in Japan. In the early Eighties I was working selling vintage clothing in Kensington in London so was really into this kind of stuff and they were much easier to find in America, where they were originally made. When I found myself in California, in 1988, and bought my first motorbike, I started wearing these jackets and there’s a photo of me wearing one sitting on a Harley in Lot 15. They are perfect for that climate cos it gets chilly in the evening but you don't need something waterproof.”
ELECTRIC CUT OFF DENIM JACKET. Exact replica of the sleeveless denim jacket worn by Billy circa 1987. Previously displayed in The Hard Rock Cafe, Las Vegas. Sizing label illegible, measures approx 18.5” pit to pit. “I was always keen on getting bespoke stage wear and lots of it, like the Love era shirts, was made by Mich my girlfriend. At the time of making Electric I was deeply into the Bon Scott cut off denim thing and decided get a biker style one made up. It was customized with German military logos and various bits on Americana that I'd picked up in truck stops touring with the band. The patches on the front were made from bandanas and the flag on the back is a Texas one as I've always had a bit of a soft spot for there, since the first time I went in 1984. It became famous when I was pictured wearing it on the ‘Electric’ album cover and has become synonymous with that era of the band. Unfortunately, like my “England” biker jacket from the Edie video (also made by Mich) it went missing in the nineties so when Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas were looking for something similar for The Cult display in 2007 Mich made up an exact replica and this is it.”
EARLY CULT - DREAMTIME/LOVE ERA T-SHIRTS. Three t-shirts from Billy's personal collection to include: grey 'Resurrection Joe' t-shirt (no label, circa L/XL), 1984 tour date t-shirt (L), 'Spirits in the Skys' 'Rebel Rockers' cut off t-shirt (M). Condition generally excellent. “The first t-shirt is super rare as it was produced for the very first Cult show in LA that we played with The Meteors in 1984 and there was only a few made.”
CHROME HEARTS 1989 STERLING SILVER BELT BUCKLE ON BLACK LEATHER BELT. A 1989 Chrome Hearts belt buckle on leather belt. Buckle measures approx 3" and is in very good condition. “This is one of the earliest Chrome Hearts pieces I picked up as they only started in 1988. You can tell by the waist size it’s old and that’s one of the very first belts they did.”
THE SEX PISTOLS & THE BUZZCOCKS POSTER. A rare, original poster for the infamous and hugely influential second Sex Pistols concert in Manchester, on Tuesday 20th July, 1976. Measures 20 x 30". Has been affixed to board, shows tape residue where tickets (previous lots) were affixed to the poster. “This was the event that changed my life. I went really to see the local band Slaughter and the Dogs but my curiosity was piqued by pictures of the Pistols in the music magazine ‘Sounds’. So I went along and they blew my mind! S&TD were actually the support band but they produced the poster and their manager put them at the top of the bill! The other support was actually The Buzzcocks playing their first ever gig. I saw them and went out and bought ‘Spiral Scratch’ afterwards as I thought they were great. (see Lot 141). This was the second Manchester gig by the Pistols in a matter of a few weeks, the first only had about 40 people but this one had a couple of hundred. There were a lot of people there that went onto become Manchester music celebrities but I didn't know any of them back then. I think there was also loads more people at that second gig because S&TD drew a lot of gangs from Wythenshawe. Of my friends that I went with, a couple of them left before The Pistols came on ‘cos there was a massive fight with glass beer bottles flying around... it was pretty gnarly. They were amazing and I remember everything about the gig like it was yesterday; what they wore, the guitars, Steve Jones with a white Les Paul and Johnny Rotten with a mohair jumper stubbing a cigarette out on his forearm! I managed to get hold of this poster and kept it along with my ticket (and a mate’s one) getting it framed later.”

Majority are in Ex or Ex+ condition and there are multiple copies of the same single although most are pressing variants. “Most interesting here from a collector’s point of view is the really early stuff that I played on, like my first ever record - 'Studio Sweethearts' and the 'Lonesome No More' single.”
BILLY'S SANTA ROSA MOTORCYCLE BOOTS. As featured at the start of the "Love Removal Machine" video. Size 9 (UK). "These Santa Rosa motorcycle boots were my first ever pair of "real" 'Clash' boots. I think I bought them in 1984 on The Cult's first U.S. tour but I do remember that I had to take a taxi to get to the store which was on Santa Monica Boulevard in West LA. It was around that time that I was developing my psychedelic biker look with the paisley shirt, beads and motorcycle belt buckles. But they're probably most notable for being "the" boots from the opening sequence of 'Love Removal Machine' video!"
BILLY'S GRETSCH WHITE FALCON GUITAR. As played by Billy. “Since I bought my first Gretsch White Falcon in the early 1980’s this guitar more than any other in my collection is the one that most people will associate with me and The Cult. I was really honoured when, in 2013, Gretsch launched my Signature model based on my classic 1975 ‘Sanctuary’ guitar. It’s not a forensic recreation or a replica of my original as my guitars have many war wounds and scars, but it’s based on that one. In the 1970s Gretsch was made by Baldwin and they built them in a different way to the modern Falcons. The more recent ones are more ’50s-based in terms of their construction, for example my 1975 one has got a zero fret. Gretsch didn't have a ’70s based Falcon as a production model so this fitted the bill. So, Gretsch x-rayed my original guitar and took it apart to take its measurements as they wanted to make sure to get it right. It’s authentic but we didn't want to create an aged copy as that’s a whole different animal. That is very labour intensive to do and would have made it one of those very expensive limited edition collector’s guitars. Both Gretsch and I wanted it to be a standard production model but that said with the custom parts based on my model, like the custom wound hot “Black Top” Filter’Tron pick-ups and 70s-style Bigsby tailpiece, it is not a cheap guitar and retails at around $5000. There are some changes from the original, the bridge isn’t standard from the era but the biggest one is that my 1975 guitar was white with gold trim and hardware but due to age and use the gold had worn off to expose the metal below. So it seemed cool to make the hardware silver and then it made sense to do the trim in silver and chrome too. We also added a small chrome plate to the headstock with my signature which made a nice sign off. In 2015 we also created an Evil twin to this one when we launched the Billy Duffy Black Falcon but that was a Limited Edition which is long sold out. This is one from my personal collection that has been used in the studio and live with The Cult.”
EARLY CULT - 1984 SIGNED CONTRACT. Collection of ephemera to include: 1984 contract between the band and ITB agency signed in blue ink by Billy and Nigel Preston, a 1985 telegram sent to the group congratulating them and wishing them well on their first Japanese tour, a collection of xeroxed pages used to compile a Cult fanzine.
BILLY'S BELOVED MANCHESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB. Collection of clothing, memorabilia and ephemera relating to Billy's great love; Manchester City Football Club. Included here: six season ticket books for seasons 72-73, 73-74, 74-75, three in Billy's name and three in his fathers' (also William Duffy), a wooden City rattle, four scarves and a woollen hat, a hand stitched cap dated 1968 and bearing names of the City squad who won the league that year, a sky blue long sleeved polo shirt, a blue circa 1970s Manchester City shirt with 'WH Duffy' stitched to label with matching socks, a Manchester City book created as a school project and marked (somewhat harshly!) 'Well tried'. “I first went to the football in 1968 with my brother and sister in law for a home game against Burnley which we won. I then went with my Dad (you can see our Platt Lane Season Tickets here) until I got older and started going with my mates, standing on the Kippax up until I left Manchester in 1979. Since then I'll always try and get to games when I can and went fairly regularly when I was back living in England in the nineties. The scarf on the left with the weird City logo (that looks vaguely like a Utd one) is my “Lucky” scarf that I had on at the game during the Aguero 93:20 moment when we put the curse to bed and won the Premier League in 2012”
