A set of First World War medals, awarded to Corporal A Long Royal Engineers No 28721. Corporal Long was killed by friendly fire at The Battle Of Paschendale on the 18th October 1914. The three war medals are accompanied by various other documents and photographs relating to Corporal Long including his birth certificate, death notice which lists cause of death as 'accidentally shot while on military duty', a letter from The Colonel in charge of the Royal Engineers record office dated 2nd December 1914, which states 'I regret to say that, when carrying a message, Corporal Long was shot by a sentry. Beyond this and the fact that he was as usual buried on the spot, about five miles east of Ypres, I can tell nothing.' Various photographs, his death plaque, a map of the cemetery at Paschendale together with a photograph of his grave. Death certificate etc. His personal effects including his pipe, dog tags and cockerel head form Vesta case.
