The album was a gift to Arabella Moulton-Barrett from Eliza Cliffe. 'The Sea Side Walk' by Elizabeth Barrett Browning was first published in The Athenaeum. 2 July 1836, and collected in 'The Seraphim, and Other Poems', 1838. This appears to be a fair copy in the author's hand. The untitled poem is 'Minstrelsy', and also a fair copy in the author's hand. The album also contains 'A Short Catechism on the Subject of Albums' by Edward Moulton-Barrett, 2pp., several lines from William Wordsworth's 'The Fountain', transcribed by Henrietta Moulton-Barrett, and a copy of 'A Couplet, Written in a Volume of Poems...' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, transcribed by Arabella Moulton-Barrett, 1p.Mixed condition.

Millar, et al., 1643-1666 RARE Joseph Caryl (1602-1673) was born in London, educated at Merchant Taylors' School, and graduated at Exeter College, Oxford, and became preacher at Lincoln's Inn. He frequently preached before the Long Parliament, and was a member of the Westminster Assembly in 1643. By order of the parliament he attended Charles I in Holmby House, and in 1650 he was sent with John Owen to accompany Cromwell to Scotland. In 1662, following the Restoration, he was ejected from his church of St Magnus-the-Martyr near London Bridge. He continued, however, to minister to an Independent congregation in London till his death in March 1673, when John Owen succeeded him.Occasional spotting, browning and rust-marks throughout, a few volumes with margins slightly shaved, rarely affecting the text of marginal notes, neatly rebacked in mottled calf, extremities neatly repaired.
