Late 19th Century Loyal Orange Order banner for Canadian lodge. Attractive handpainted banner for L.O.L. 3228, Caribou Lodge, Vancouver, Canada, dating from early 20th century. Obverse: King William on horseback at the Battle of The Boyne. Reverse: crowned shield showing emblems of Canada's provinces, surrounded by maple leaves and "CANADA OUR HOME / BRITISH LIBERTY" inscriptions. Made by Ambrose Kent & Sons, Toronto, Ontario (active circa 1880-1900) 71 by 48 in. (180 by 122cm) 71 x 48in. (180.34 x 121.92cm) Orange Lodges were first established in Canada in 1812, and by the mid 19th century the Order had lodges in most of the cities and provinces. The Order was active in the suppression of rebellions against the British administration and also participated in the resistance of the Fenian raid into Canada. Over 80,000 members of the Order in Canada volunteered for service in World War I. The Order was very influential in Canadian business and politics and four Orangemen have been Prime Ministers of Canada - Sir John A. Macdonald, the father of Canadian Confederation, Sir John Abbott, Sir Mackenzie Bowell (a past Grand Master), and John Diefenbaker.

An unopened bottle of Arctic Expedition beer dated 1875, with original intact label and contents. Allsopp's Arctic Ale was brewed for The British Arctic Expedition of 1875. The Expedition was an attempt by the British Admiralty to reach the North Pole and included two ships HMS Alert and HMS Discovery under the leadership of Vice-Admiral Sir George Nares (1831-1915). Unfortunately the expedition failed to reach the pole but succeeded in mapping the coast lines of Greenland and Ellesmere Island. Nares, in taking both ships successfully north through the channel between both land masses became the first explorer to do so and the channel was named 'Nares Strait' in his honour.

A Copeland Parian figure of Paul and Virginia mid 19th century, modelled by C. Cumberworth, both seated on a rocky stump with a nest containing four chicks, impressed mark (at fault) 30cm high. This model, which was first published in 1846, derives from the novel Paul and Virginia by Jacques-Henri Bernadin de Saint-Pierre, which tells the tragic tale of two children who grow up on a paradise island, entirely governed by nature's laws, and are then corrupted by society with tragic consequences. Provenance: The Raymond Sims Collection.
