[Antarctic expedition] 'Like English Gentlemen' To Peter Scott from the Author of Where’s Master? written anonymously (c.1913) first edition, published very shortly after the death of Sir Robert Falcon Scott during his ill-fated return journey from the South Pole, a juvenile story referencing Peter Pan but written for Sir Robert Scott’s son Peter and published to help raise funds for the child following his father's death, the story recounting the tragic South Pole expedition. With advert at rear asking for donations towards a fund to help support Scott’s son and the families of the comrades who perished along with Scott on their journey home, bound in original boards with chromolithographic cover image, together with a copy of J.M. Barrie by Janet Dunbar. [Sir Peter Markham Scott was named after Peter Pan, the well-known character created by Scott’s godfather J.M.Barrie]

A George III style mahogany brass dial longcase clock The dial unsigned Probably first half 20th century, the hood with swan neck pediment and turned fluted columns, the case with cross-banded arched door flanked by fluted quarter columns above a line-inlaid base box raised on bracket feet, the 9in arched dial with silvered Roman chapter, subsidiary seconds dial below 12 and a matted centre, the arch with a silvered Silent/Strike dial, with mask and foliage spandrels, the eight day movement with four knopped pillars striking on a bell. With pendulum and two weights. 39.5cm wide x 22cm deep x 193cm high Condition:IMPORTANT NOTE: This clock is not George III period as originally catalogued but a later reproduction, possibly first half 20th century Hood: Good with some minor cosmetic marks.Case: Good with minor signs of age, chip to back edge of right side of the trunk, cosmetic marks to base box.Dial: Good.Movement: Winds, runs and strikes.Ancillaries: In good working order.Unless otherwise stated, all clocks are likely to have been serviced and/or repaired in their lifetime and may have had parts replaced.
