[Autograph / Victoria Cross] A First World War bon mot album containing the autograph and photograph of Tom Dresser V.C (1891-1982) in uniform wearing his Victoria Cross, signed 'Best Wishes Pte Tom Dresser V.C. Yorkshire Regiment' and dated 27th September 1917 above an illustration of a black cat and the words 'Good Luck', together with a later compliments card from Mr and Mrs Dresser dated June 2nd 1925, the album containing other military related humorous sketches etc. On 12 May 1917 near Roeux, France, Private Dresser, in spite of having been twice wounded on the way and suffering great pain, succeeded in conveying an important message from battalion headquarters to the front line trenches, which he eventually reached in an exhausted condition. His fearlessness and determination to deliver this message at all costs proved of the greatest value to his battalion at a critical period. His Victoria Cross is displayed at the Green Howards Museum in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
An extremely rare British Army pennant from Sir Douglas Haig's staff car, in printed cotton, bearing a period inscription First flag flown by Sir D Haig when C in C. [Provenance: from the military effects of M2 - 022177 Pte John Smith, RASC, GHQ 1st Echelon, (see associated lots in this auction). Smith's 'Certificate of Employment during the War' and 'Unit Register Card' state he was Chauffeur from 24 December 1914 until demobilization, attached GHQ C-in-C's personal staff. The personal reference from Haig's ADC states Smith "was employed from July 1915 until January 1919 ... on the Commander in Chief's Personal Staff both under Lord French and Sir Douglas Haig. He has always been employed on Sir Douglas's cars]
William Taylor Longmire (1841-1914) A pair of sensitive Lakeland landscape views at dusk, having luminous light and wide open waters, watercolour, signed and dated 1870 and 1882 respectively, uniformly framed under wash line mount and glass, 25 x 36 cm and 21 x 32 cm From a well established farming family located at Troutbeck near Ambleside, Longmire was encouraged in his passion for drawing as a child, and whilst growing up at Staveley, he studied art under Mr Howe at Windermere. It was here that Longmire suffered a life changing accident, whereby he fell into the lake but continued on to school without first changing in his clothing, this resulted first in a fever and secondly from acute and permanent deafness. Longmire eventually settled in Ambleside where he practised as a full-time artist and became one of the town's most colourful and well-known characters.
[Autograph / RMS Titanic] Photograph of the RMS Titanic signed in pen and ink by Eliza Gladys "Millvina" Dean (1912-2009), framed and mounted under glass, 22 x 34.5 cm, with certificate of authenticity verso, alongside a photograph of Millvina signing the same photographs Millvina Dean was the last remaining survivor of the RMS Titanic following its sinking on 15 April 1912, and at two months old when the ship sailed, she was also the youngest passenger on board the Titanic. Dean's parents had decided to leave the United Kingdom and emigrate to Wichita, Kansas, where her father had relatives. They were not supposed to be aboard the Titanic, but due to a coal strike, they were transferred onto it and boarded it as third-class passengers at Southampton, England. Alongside her parents Dean was travelling with her older brother Bertram Vere who was nearly two at the time. Her father felt the collision with the iceberg and after investigating, returned to his cabin where he told his wife to dress the children and go up on deck. Dean, her mother, and her brother were placed in Lifeboat 10 and were among the first third-class passengers to escape the stricken vessel. Her father, however, did not survive, and his body, if recovered, was never identified.

Third Intermediate Period, 1069-702 BC. A green-olive glazed composition amuletic aegis with counterpoise, lion's head with disc and uraeus, counterpoise with a rosette. Cf. Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, item 40(c"). 1.35 grams, 29mm (1 1/4"). Ex Michael Nellist collection, Cornwall, UK; acquired on the UK art market 1970-2000. The Mike Nellist Collection. His interest in antiquity was piqued when, during the 1970s, he spent some time working in Israel and had the opportunity to visit Roman-period locations including Lake Galilee and Masada, the site of the famous Judaean revolt and subsequent massacre. He made his first purchases at that time and was soon building an enviable collection of artefacts. While at university, he was able to study human remains at first hand in conjunction with archaeological research and from there his passion for the human aspects of historical research was kindled. Now retired, Mike indulges one of his other passions – wildlife and nature photography. [No Reserve] Fine condition.

Tolleck Winner is a Russian-born UK-resident sculptor whose work in bronze, granite, steel, brass and other media has won many awards.
