Octavo, pp. 320: printer's imprint, original pictorial blue cloth, front panel stamped in gold and white, spine panel stamped in gold. First edition. 10,716 copies printed. The first Professor Challenger story, in which the scientist and his exploring party locate a remnant of the prehistoric world on a plateau in South America. Challenger's narrative "remains the most famous of its type and has served as a model since its publication." - Anatomy of Wonder (1981). The Lost World is a novel released in 1912 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle concerning an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals (dinosaurs and other extinct creatures) still survive. It was originally published serially in the popular Strand Magazine and illustrated by New-Zealand-born artist Harry Rountree during the months of April-November 1912. The character of Professor Challenger was introduced in this book. The novel also describes a war between indigenous people and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures.

The Poison Belt was the second story, a novella, that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about Professor Challenger. Written in 1913, roughly a year before the outbreak of World War I, much of it takes place in a single room in Challenger's house in Sussex - rather oddly, given that it follows The Lost World, a story set largely outdoors in the wilds of South America. This would be the last story written about Challenger until the 1920s, by which time Doyle's spiritualist beliefs had begun to influence his writing.

Barry Nelson signed card, He was the first actor to play James Bond on screen, in a 1954 adaptation of Ian Fleming`s novel Casino Royale on the television anthology series Climax! (preceding Sean Connery`s interpretation in Dr. No by eight years). Reportedly this was considered a pilot for a possible James Bond television series, though it`s not known if Nelson intended to continue playing the character. Nelson played James Bond as an American agent whom some in the program call "Jimmy". In 2004, Nelson said, "At that time, no one had ever heard of James Bond. Good condition

She was the first actor to win multiple Academy Awards and the first person to win them consecutively. She was discovered by American studio Metro - Goldwyn - Mayer talent scouts while acting on stage in Austria and Germany and after appearing in Austrian films. Joe Kittinger Jr signed 1982 STS3 Us Space Shuttle cover. Former USAF Command Pilot, career military officer and retired Colonel in the United States Air Force. He is most famous for his participation in Project Manhigh and Project Excelsior in 1960, setting the record longest skydive from a height greater than 31 kilometres (19 mi). He is also the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon and the first man to witness the curvature of the Earth. Serving as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, he achieved an aerial kill of a North Vietnamese jet fighter and was later shot down himself, spending 11 months as a prisoner of war in a North Vietnamese prison. In 2012, at the age of 84, he participated in the Red Bull Stratos project as capsule communicator, directing Felix Baumgartner on his record - breaking 39 - kilometer (24 mi) freefall from Earth`s stratosphere. Group Captain Peter Townsend CVO DSO DFC (Bar) RAF. Serving with 43 Squadron on the 3rd February 1940 he shared in the destruction of a Heinkel 111, the first German aircraft to crash on English soil in WWII. He commanded 85 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. In 1941 the squadron went over to a night - fighting role. On the night of February 25th he scored the squadron`s first enemy aircraft a Dornier 17 destroyed. He ended the war with a score of 9 confirmed victories. In February 1944 he was appointed Equerry to King George V1 and served until his death in 1952. Good condition
