Kevin Barry's CaseBarry (Kevin) Republican, a small brown leather Case, with stitched edges and steel clasps, with initials "K.B." (Kevin Barry) on upper cover, worn to parts, possibly used for dispatches around the City of Dublin for the I.R.A., as an artefact. (1)Provenance: A Private Collection in Carlow.* Kevin Barry (1902 - 1920) was born in Dublin and reared in Tombeagh, Co. Carlow. He was educated in Belvedere College, and was a fine hurler and rugby player, excelling in both codes. In 1916, after attending a commemoration for the Manchester Martyrs, he joined Fianna Eireann, even though reportable, dissuaded. He was a medical student at U.C.D. In 1917 aged 15 he joined the I.R.A. - C Company 1st Battalion. He was involved in many operations, and was promoted to section commander.On the 20 September 1920, after attending mass, he joined up with a group of volunteers on Bolton St., however due to complications the ambush didn't go to plan, and their were fatal casualties. He was subsequently arrested, tried and was hanged. He was the first Republican to be executed by the British since the 1916 Rising. "A Boy of only Eighteen Summers."

The Abbeyleix "Titanic" Carpet[Titanic] A length or specimen cut of woven Carpet, from the Abbeyleix Carpet Works, who manufactured at Abbeyleix House for the Titanic and its sister ships. The above example was designed and worked by Sarah Cloney, a senior member at the factory.* The factory operated for ten years from 1904 - 1914, until it ceased operations prior to the outbreak of the First World War.
