7961204 SGT George William Mason Royal Armoured Corps, a comprehensive WWII Special Forces Arnhem veteran medal group, comprising BWM with oakleaf, defence medal, three stars: 1939-45, France & Germany and Burma, with a Dutch Meritorious Service cross, medal miniatures for the same, ribbons and patches, further ephemera including Masons service book, citation etc. Mason was mentioned in dispatches 30/08/1945 (copy included). Two commemorative cathedral silver quaichs, the first celebrating 500th anniversary of the completion of York Minster, produced by Aurum, numbered 694 from an edition of 1000, together with another similar commemorating the 300th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of St Paul's Cathedral numbered 379/900, both boxed and with certificates, total silver weight approximately 19oz. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotherby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.Approximately 17oz combined weight
