Lot 237

Zell Osborne - A vintage 20th century circa 1980s two pottery ceramic dragons by artist Zell Osborne. The dragons being signed and dated by the artist with one seated and the other recumbent.  The smaller measures approximately 10cm x 11cm x 12cm high and the larger approximately 23cm x 13cm x 9cm tall. Zell Osborne studied art at the Cardiff College of Art where she obtained a first class Degree in Ceramics in 1979.  For a number of years she ran a pottery studio in her native county of Cornwall, in the United Kingdom prior to moving to Malta. Her first exhibition in Malta was at the Museum of Fine Arts in 1986 followed by a second in 1988. Since then, she has settled permanently in Malta and held a solo exhibition at St. James Cavalier and taken part in many collective ones.

A collection of five Morgan American silver dollars dated 1981, 1900 and 1921. Named after their British engraver, George T. Morgan, Details of each coin as follows: A rare early 1891 dated silver dollar stamped CC for the Carson City Mint, a 1900 dated silver dollar stamped O for the New Orleans Mint a 1921 dated silver dollar stamped D for the Denver Mint, a 1921 dated silver dollar stamped S for the San Francisco Mint, and a 1921 dated silver dollar with no Mint mark stamped on it which is believed to indicate the Philadelphia Mint. The Morgan Dollar was first made in 1878 and last made in 1904. Then in 1921 for some reason, they got the old dies out, made them look a bit more modern, and struck another Morgan Silver Dollar for this one year only. The obverse (heads side) features Liberty in profile. A cap, flora, and crown incused with the word “LIBERTY” adorn her head, while 13 stars, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the year of issuance encircle her. The reverse (tails) depicts an eagle with outstretched wings clasping arrows and an olive branch, accompanied by a wreath. Reverse inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” Each measures approximately 37mm in diameter and all five have a combined weight of approximately 133.1g.
