The French Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis, badge, a small gold and enamel Maltese Cross, fleur-de-lis in angles, the centre with St. Louis and on the reverse, a sword and wreath, suspension loop and lined ring, 34mm. The slightest damage to the enamel, otherwise extremely fine and extremely rare. The Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis was established in 1693. It is not clear whether this Badge dates from the late French monarchy (the Order was suspended in 1792) or from the first Restoration of 1815. The Badge is a companion and of similar manufacture to the Order of Saint-Michael, lot 722

The slightest damage to the central enamel, otherwise extremely fine and extremely rare. The Order of Saint-Michael was established in 1469. It is not clear whether this Badge dates from the late French monarchy (the Order was suspended in 1792) or from the first Restoration of 1815. The Badge is a companion and of similar manufacture to the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis, lot 720
