Set in a country house, this murder mystery lightly pokes fun at its contemporary gold age fictitious detectives such as Poirot and Lord Peter Wimsey.

Author's presentation inscription to ffep, To Mrs. Everett with love from Celia Congreve July 1921. Publisher's original paper boards with title label, sl. soiled, bumped to edges. A rare presentation copy of this poetry collection by Lady Celia Congreve, who served as a nurse for the British Field Hospital for Belgium, the Johnstone-Reckitt Hospital and for the French Red Cross during World War One, for which she was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Her husband Sir Walter Congreve also served; their son Billy died in action in 1916 and was awarded the Victoria Cross. A scarce and interesting collection of war poetry by a female poet. 16mo.
