A rare WWI First World War interest collection of items relating to the Ruffy Baumann Flying School. Comprising: an original c1920's ' The Ruffy-Baumann School Of Flying' brochure - filled with details and photographs, including pictures of Edouard Baumann and Felix Ruffy, various Biplanes, Testimonials, and other such interesting details. Also included is an original photograph from the school which shows two planes in a field - one of which is being piloted by Ami Baumann (the photograph is inscribed such) and is dated 1916. The third item is an interesting and unique original Passport from 1926 onwards for Ami Baumann (Cousin of Edouard), one of the instructors at the flying school. A fascinating and interesting collection of early aviation ephemera. Rare.The Ruffy-Baumann School Of Flying became instrumental during the First World War for training and testing (and developing) new aircraft for warfare.
An incredible local interest WWII Second World War 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment collection of items. All relating to a Ronald ' Roy ' Charles Harris. Harris joined the First Paras and later the Eleventh SAS. From his obituary (included with the sale): ' Roy came from a large family...(and) he set up the Kingswood firm 'Harris Brothers' with his two brothers...before he started the family firm he served his country in the Second World War... (he) joined as a soldier of the First Paras and Eleventh SAS and was in action in Europe. In 1942 when parachuting into Sicily, Roy was injured when the Germans opened fire as they came down. Roy was captured and taken prisoner of war where he spent long periods in solitary confinement which affected his health...'. Included within the lot is: - Harris' own ' No.2 Commando 11th SAS 1st Parachute Battalion ' patch- Harris' Soldier Service Book - listing his Army Number as 4625961- Several photographs of Harris (and his battalion) - x3 framed, one unframed. - Harris' original Parachute Battalion beret, with parachute regiment badge to front.- An Air Letter from Harris sent home to Bristol. Dated 29.4.1943, the letter reads, in part: '...it won't be long now before North Africa is ours... the last few days have been very hot, and we have been sun-bathing - most of the lads are black! Will you let me know if the papers in England said anything about the 'Parachute' fighting in this country - I should like to know they did ' and followed by more family related sentiments- Two copies of Prisoner Of War camp ' Punishment ' notices - dated August 17th 1944 which lists Harris and another prisoner. For escaping the camp, they are given ' close arrest for a term of 7 days ' (solitary confinement). Written in German and English. - Harris' own Fairbairn Sykes British Commando dagger - within it's original leather and steel scabbard. - Harris' SAS / Commando issue Knuckle Duster - with ministry markings.- Several effects relating to a ' 1st Para Battalion 11th SAS Reunion Dance ' on March 29th 1947 at The Angel Hotel, Knutsford '. Including an original (fragile) poster, ticket, press photograph, and newspaper extract from the event ' Red Devils meet again! '.- A No.2 Commando 11th SAS 1st Parachute Battalion Reunion Dinner menu from 1985..and various other personal (and later effects) including a Union Flag, Matador throwing knife, and various Parachute Regiment related mementos.An interesting and important collection of WWII militaria.
An incredible believed original WWI First World War era Tank Corp driver's ' splatter ' mask and accompanying leather helmet. Mask of steel and leather construction, with metal eye shields, and chain mail chin cover. Original canvas head straps present. The helmet of sectional leather construction, with rivets. Retains original inner liner and head strap. An incredibly rare surviving example.NOTE: These masks and helmets were introduced in early 1917 to protect the crew from splinters caused by steel particles which flew around the inside of the tank as it was hit by projectiles.Note: (added 14/8/2019 at 13:04) - due to the nature of this item, buyers are reminded for the need to satisfy themselves as to authenticity, accuracy and condition of items prior to bidding, irrespective of description.
A WWI First World War Imperial German Army Seitengewehr Model 1898 rifle bayonet having a wooden hilt with diagonal grooves, steel pommel, press stud, steel crossguard, rearward steel quillon, pipe back blade, leather scabbard with steel furnishings and repro leather frog. Notation to the ricasso ' Simson & Co Suhl ' and matching serial numbers to the scabbard hook and cross guard ' 20903 '. Measures; 69cm overall.

All of the cards are presumed to have been sent from Charlie who was serving in the Army. ' propaganda card, Battleship HMS Queen Mary and others. An interesting collection - some make fascinating reading, some with Censor stamps.

A rare pair of WWI First World War RFC Royal Flying Corps ' 1st Pattern ' brown rubber flying goggles. Brown rubber construction, with elasticated head straps and glass lenses to front. Generally in good condition for age, there is some slight rubber deterioration around the nose area (see images). Supplied within a period box. Rare.

An interesting and rare collection of four early aviation interest photographs depicting US Navy Curtiss NC-4 flying boat captained by Lieutenant Commander Albert C Read at the end of its Celebratory tour for the first transatlantic flight from May 8 to 31st 1919. The NC-4 was a Curtiss NC flying boat that was the first aircraft to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, albeit not non-stop. The four sepia photographs believed to have never have been seen and likely unique. Three of the photographs having pen notation to borders. Measures 8cm x 13cm.

The first (longest) being awarded for ' Best Shot Of 103 Company ' and the shorter being presented for ' Best Drill Of 103 Company '. Both hallmarked for London, 1905. The shortests' hallmarked for John Hazlewood Worrall, the tallest 'WSS'. Longest approx; 69cm. Rare.

Framed and glazed to a total size of: 69cm x 53cm.

Craib), WWI Mons Star (with 1914 clasp), WWI War Medal, WWI Victory Medal (with Oak Leaf for a mention in despatches), WWII 1939-45 Star, WWII Pacific Star, WWII Australia Service Medal, WWII War Medal, and his WWI Croix de Guerre with palm (for acts of Heroism in the field). The group is accompanied by it's full set of miniatures, a bar (for the First World War group, with oak leaf) and other related effects to the soldier.
