It was continued in 1739 by Rousset de Missy and Barbeyrac. It contains treaties from 315 A.D. to 1730. The treaties are all in their original language. The first volume of the supplement by Jean Barbeyrac contains treaties from antiquity: "Histoire des anciens traitez, ou Recueil historique et chronologique des traitez répandus dans les auteurs grecs et latins et autres monumens de l'antiquité." Rather rare, especially in this condition.

On one hand his work influenced Gottfried Leibniz and Giordano Bruno (a.o.), on the other they were a great influence on the debate between Christians and Jews in Spain and on the attempts at conversion of Muslims in Spain. Notebook for the first 26 weeks of 18?? containing i.a. names, addresses and registration numbers of Leiden citizens, probably to administrate premiums for a health insurance fund. Manuscript in pencil and ink on paper. 97 lvs., r° and v°. In cont. sm-8° vellum bind. (Traces of use, but in good, legible condition). NOTE:A health insurance was mainly aimed at the poor and the premium therefore consisted of a few cents a week. The 'health insurance carrier' collected the premium money weekly from the insured and then paid the doctors and pharmacists. In the 19th century, the popularity of health insurance funds grew rapidly. Commercial funds, mutual workers' funds and funds set up by doctors and pharmacists arose.

An important and rare work on the Qarmatins of Bahrain. The Qarmartins were a revolutionary Shi'a Ismaili sect, which took control of Bahrain in 899 AD and instigated a break from orthodox Islam that extended to the sack of Mecca in 930 AD. They were the dominant force in the Persian Gulf and Middle East for much of the 10th century, until a number of destabilising factors led to their defeat by the Abbasids (in 976) and subsequent diminishment.

Cont. hcf. NOTE:Rare first part of the first volume of this monthly magazine, published by the 'Permanente Commissie van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid', mainly by the founder (Johannes van den Bosch) and the secretary (Willem Anthonie Ockerse), to inform the donors what the 'Maatschappij' spend their money on. At the beginning of the 19th century, a large-scale social experiment took place in the United Netherlands, with as purpose: to end poverty. Since 1818, the 'Maatschappij van Weldadigheid' buys up large, uncultivated tracts of land. Seven Colonies of 'Weldadigheid' were established there in seven years. The publication of the magazine ends in 1826 after the death of Ockerse. In 2007 'De Star' is revived by the former director Jan Mensink a.o.

His life's project was a general study of the geography of Antiquity, based not only on classical literary sources, but - and this was his contribution - supplemented by wide travels and local inspections. He became virtually the founder of historical geography. The first edition of this work appeared in 1624 (without maps) and many editions followed. Not in Adams, Soltesz, Machiels. - Only a few copies found worldwide. With stamp "Museo Cavaleri" on the title-page. Michele Cavaleri (1813-1890) was a prominent lawyer in Milan, who collected a vast number of paintings, sculptures, antiquities and books. He negotiated with the city council of Milan to create a museum for his collection, but the council declined. Ernesto Cernuschi bought the entire collection in 1873 and it was shipped to Paris. Cernuschi died in 1896, part of the collection survives at the Musée Cernuschi in Paris, but much of it was sold. Bookplate of L.J.M. Corten on paste down.
