Radclyffe Hall based her groundbreaking 1928 lesbian novel 'The Well of Loneliness' on the life and loves of Barney. Very rare signed first edition of this important work.

for the transom window of 's-Gravendijkwal 61, Rotterdam. Mid 20th cent. All 83 x 48 cm. 3 windows depict scenes with Phaeton, one portrays Artemis. Incl. the orig. blueprint pencil drawings of the house featuring these windows. 1 window tile professionally repaired, overall in good condition. Nicolas is well-known for his biblical/ religiously themed stained glass windows for churches and public buildings. These privately commissioned designs based on Ovid's Metamorphoses are an interesting exception to his typical oeuvre. The construction with the transom window has since been reconstructed after it changed ownership in the 1960s, but the work by Nicolas was saved and has been carefully archived by the family of the first owner. The oldest clipping dated 26 June 1926, the newest after the death of Picasso, mounted in 11 unif. paper portfolios, the larger part numbered (II and IV-X) and w. ill. on front wr. A lovingly assembled extensive archive, also comprising invitations, programs or entry tickets for exhibitions and carbon copies of letters. A recurring name is that of G.H.J. van der Laan, apparently the person who assembled the archive. One carbon copy of a letter addressed to "Cher Monsieur Picasso", dated Amst., 29 August 1953, reveals that in 1912 Van der Laan had already seen a painting of Picasso for the first time. The other letters by or to Van der Laan, show that he frequently wrote directly to newspapers such as De Waarheid and The Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Also present is a greeting card stamped on occasion of the exhibition Hommage à Picasso, Petit Palais, Nov. 1966 - Febr. 1967, w. printed "Meileurs voeux" completed in handwriting "pour votre anniversaire et une très longue vie 20 Jan. '67". Loosely inserted are also three proof plates w. a total of 4 illustrations after Picasso printed from clichés, of which at least 2 (head of a woman in black and the large owl) were used as front wrappers for Stedelijk Museum catalogues. The famous Typewriter issue (No. 8) has contributions by Dutch authors W.F. Hermans, Rudy Kousbroek and Piet Grijs, and it comes with the original illustrated envelope and carbon paper (but lacking correction foil). All in very good condition. The periodical focused on innovative and creative design with a humorous twist. Its design and format varied with each (themed) issue, and it often featured inserts and mounted objects. (total 10)

Des. by Molzahn, stamped '24-2-'25, Leine'. 11 x 21.5 cm. *Between 1911 and 1925, Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer completed three phases of building for the Fagus-Werke, or Fagus shoe factory, at Alfeld on the Leine River (near Hannover). During the third and final phase, the firm engaged the Bauhaus advertising workshop, under the leadership of Herbert Bayer, to design publicity materials. These included a set of standard-sized (DIN A5), hole-punched brochures describing the manufacturing elements Fagus produced, and standard-sized (DIN A6) calling cards for its representatives. Initially designed by Bayer and then executed by other members of the workshop, these were among the first products of the newly functional Bauhaus printing facility (Bauhausdruck) in Dessau. First leaf w. repaired tears, a few lvs loose, all formerly folded, minimal other imperfections. Interesting convolute containing resolutions on a.o. on the Dutch East and West India Companies, Dutch ambassadors in foreign countries and slavery. A few examples: (1) 24 September 1732. Lot 1739

Notepad in faux leather w. gilt Spijker emblem on cover. Introductory pages w. calendar and memorandum, 1919. 11 x 6.5 cm. Former owner's name 'Jan Hadders Jaz, Valthermond, Gem. Odoorn' written on owner's inscription page, incl. his drivers license number '4614'. Incl. an (original?) pencil 'Johann Faber Memorandum' w. metal top in side-holder. First few pages give information on the chassis, type 13/30 P.K. and several charts. The calendar leaves are mostly blank except for some notes on the places Hadders went to and their distance ('van Groningen naar Zuidlaren 17.3, Paterswolde 8.6, Leeuwarden 57 etc.). On 29 mai he noted 'Van Valthermond naar Groningen, 54 km. in 2 uur'. Extremely rare.

Dutch, 2nd half 17th cent. (first entry dated 1665), 19th cent. marbled and panelled leather, 4to. Some coats of arms handcol. in gouache but most in pen and black ink. W. annotation verso of the third leaf: "Ex libris W.C.H. Machen, Warmond, no. 671" (William Charlemagne Henri Machen, 1860-1835). Also w. 2 identical bookplates of the Provinciebestuur van Overijssel. Interesting and attractive 17th cent. heraldic manuscript, the first few pages containing the arms of "Nassouw van Oranje stadhouder van Gelderlandt", followed by a double-p. genealogical tree containing the coats of arms and the names of a.o. Nassau, Stolberg, Saxen, Hessen, Mecklenburg and Mansvelt. Also at the beginning are a series of coats of arms of cities, provinces and countries, w. names in pen such as Valentia, Granada, Catalonien, Dalmatien, Napels, Schotlant, China, Tartarien, Constantionopolen, Egypten, Croacia, Zeelant and Utrecht. Most of the other coats of arms have as captions the names of various noble families. Binding sl. weak along hinges, spine and outer corners rubbed, the first leaf w. sl. dam. margins (repaired), fingersoiled/ a bit browned/ stained throughout.
