The Inside Story Of America's Race to the Moon by Alan Shepard and Deke Slayton, US first edition hardback 1994, signed to an inside page 'Al Shepard', excellent condition. Slayton was originally going to co-author this book with Neil Armstrong. Armstrong subsequently dropped out and Slayton, diagnosed with cancer, asked Shepard to help him finish the book which he did for his old Mercury colleague despite having previously saying he wouldn't write a book. Slayton died in 1993, before the book was published. Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. was an American astronaut. In 1961, he became the second person and the first American to travel into space and, in 1971, he became the fifth and oldest person to walk on the Moon, at age 47. Good condition.
