AN 1897 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, the 32 1/2" fullered blade etched with foliage, crown, GR, Royal coat of arms and maker's mark for Joseph Ridge & Co. Sheffield, hilt with George V cypher, shagreen grip and plaque inscribed "TO ANDREW A MEMENTO OF HIS FIRST FILM FROM JOHN MACKENZIE SEPTEMBER 1984", leather officer's knot, leather bound scabbard and canvas sword bag, 40 1/4" long, together with associated paperwork Provenance: Purchased in 1984 by Tempest Films from Alan Beadle Antique Arms to be used as a prop by Andrew Hawley in the film "The Innocent". It was then presented by the Director John Mackenzie (Est. plus 21% premium inc. VAT)The sword is in generally good condition, some oxidation in places. Wear to the leather knot tip and stapled repair. Canvas bag has lost its strap and the buckle is rusted.
AN 1822 PATTERN OFFICER'S SWORD, with 32 1/4" pipe back blade, brass hilt bearing crossed sword and scabbard cypher, shagreen grip and leather scabbard, 39 1/4" long, together with an officer's sword stamped 1874 with a horn grip, 36 3/4" long (2) (Est. plus 21% premium inc. VAT)The first sword is generally good, some blade oxidation and one dent/crease to scabbard (though not bending), scabbard metal at tip loose, but would neatly reglue. The other sword has no scabbard and a pitted blade. Also has a cracked and flattened hand guard. Minor losses to horn.
