A Chinese Blanc-de-Chines Standing Guanyin Qing Dyn. H. 49cm; W. 15cm Qing Dynasty This lot is from the Lin Sen collection. Lin Sen (1868-1943), sobriquet Chang-jen, courtesy name Tze-chao, was born in Minhou County, Province of Fukien. He served as the Chairman of the National Government of the Republic of China in 1932 and spurned all offers to defect the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and passed away on August 1 at the age of 76. Lin Sen was always fond of collecting antiques, and his residence was decorated with various antiques. In 1943 Lin Sen had four wills on his deathbed, one of which said: "After the death, please sell my properties in Lushan, Beiping, South Hot Springs and Nanjing, as well as my savings, clothes, paintings and antiques, as a fund for the establishment of Shanggan Vocational School. The Kuomintang Lin Sen Funeral Committee to Lin Sen then presented the collection of thousands of antiques for public auctions. Most of them were purchased by the first Ambassador of the Netherlands to the Republic of China Lovink and shipped back to the Netherlands for his collection. This auction of Lin Sen's collection was offered by the descendants of Ambassador Lovink.

A 9 carat rose gold wedding band, 5.9mm wide plain polished D shape ring size L, London 1978; a sapphire and diamond cluster ring, in 9 carat yellow gold mount ring size J1/2; another sapphire and diamond cluster ring, in 9 carat yellow gold mount ring size L1/2; and four other gemset rings, all in 9 carat yellow gold mounts; total gross weight 22.3g.Condition report:The wedding band has numerous surface scratches and some sticky residue which has slightly stained the metal. Two small sapphires in the first cluster ring in the main image have chips to the girdle, visible with 10x lens. There is some sticky yellow residue on the simulated pearls, removeable with a fingernail. All shanks have some surface scratches, consistent with wear. Please see additional uploaded images.

These were used as cartoons for a series of tapestries illustrating the Story of Don Quixote, probably the most popular series of tapestries ever woven, from the first weaving in 1717 until 1794. The originals are now in the Musée National du Chateau de Compiègne. Condition Report: *The canvases have only been inspected from a distance and have not been removed from the wall. All three canvases have been relined. Surface dirt and discolouration of the varnish. Areas of thinning paint. UV light reveals numerous scattered restorations and retouches. Several superficial abrasions. The largest canvas is composed of four vertical strips of canvas, the seams are clearly visible.
