Smokebox numberplate 60506 ex LNER Gresley/Thompson P2 A2/2 named Wolf Of Badenoch built at Doncaster in 1936 as Class P2 2-8-2 and numbered 2006. Rebuilt in 1944 as a 4-6-2 and numbered LNER 506 and BR 60506. Allocated to Haymarket, Aberdeen Ferryhill and 35A New England from where it was withdrawn in April 1961. Scrapped at Doncaster Works. Face restored, rear with typical Doncaster casting marks. The first time this has been offered publicly at auction.

London Brighton and South Coast Railway 14 inch dial mahogany cased fusee drop dial clock supplied to the railway in 1851 by William Wright of Tooley Street London at a cost of 7-0-0d. The case with flame mahogany veneer carved ears and LB&SCR numberplate 145 screwed onto the front is in excellent condition. The English chain fusee movement with rectangular plates with shaped shoulders is in good clean condition and the dial has been restored to its original pre grouping dial writing of LB&SCR 145. The Southern Railway clock records show it last in use at Holland Road Goods Office. A lovely early clock in working condition complete with pendulum and key, but not tested for timekeeping. Rare to find a LB&SCR still with its enamel numberplate as they were only applied to around the first 220 clocks.
Nameplate SAMUEL JOHNSON ex British Railways diesel class 60 60062. Built by Brush Loughborough as works number 964 in June 1991, nameplates first seen fitted 2nd May 1991 at Brush and unofficially unveiled June 1991 and the name removed in November 1996. Re-engined and still in active service. Cast aluminium in as removed condition measures 59in x 9.75in. DB Cargo (UK) Ltd certificate of authenticity accompanies the lot.
Nameplate RAMILLIES ex British Railways Diesel class 50 built by English Electric in 1968 as works number 3789/D1160 and numbered D419 and renumbered 50019 in December 1973 and named without ceremony at Laira Depot in April 1978. Withdrawn in September 1990 from Laira and purchased by the Class 50 Locomotive Association in September 1991. Its first home in preservation was at the Tunbridge Wells & Eridge Railway and then moved to its current home at the Mid-Norfolk Railway in May 1999. In as removed condition as purchased from British Railways Collectors Corner.

The cover and first two pages have come away. Illustrated pages throughout. Appears to have all the numbered pages, index and end, but difficult to be certain without checking every page.

The forte engraved with two lions inside scalloped circle and shaped cartouche on both faces, one of them with the name of the manufacturer: 'Amal-e Ibrahim' (work by Ibrahim). Hilt featuring dark-horn grips with ogival pins and circular bases decorated with gold threadings. Wooden scabbard with black-skin covering and silver mounts, nielloed with geometrical motifs. The oval of the central cartouche with the writing 'If'tha lana bi haqq hamilaha rahmatan fa huwa min Suleyman' (Open for us with the Truth for the one who carries this sword with Mercy since it is from Suleyman). length 72 cm.

Complete qith leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts. Very scarce. The external wheel engraved with an ornament with racemes and flowers, and held by a carved and twisted ring-nut. Faceted pan, carved with leaves. The outline of the spring carved with flowers. Hammer with baluster-shaped throw, decorated with acanthus leaves in-relief and with a second angled segment holding the jaws (the upper one with missing parts at the border). Octagonal, smooth segment at the center. Last part shaped as a truncated cone with thick longitudinal fluted decorations. Scarce. dating: 1620 - 1640 provenance: Northern Italy, With wide, flat plate, cusped at the border, with rolled-up and lobed tang. Hammer with octagonal throw, featuring a knot and rings at the first part, then strongly curved, featuring remains of small engravings with volutes and flowers. The upper jaw ribbed at the center. Particular mechanisms with two pans, the upper one is sliding and provided with a channel to bring the blaze to the second vent. The channel runs at the side of the batterie and the mechanism is provided also with a double pan: the former is integrated with the batterie, the former (hinged separately), is to cover the channel of the upper pan. length plate 23,7 cm.
dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Duchy of Parma, Straight, single-and false-edged blade, with fuller at the first part and engraved with floral motif, then of lenticular section. Typical gilt brass handle with monogram 'CC' under crown on the shell-guard, crowns on the pommel and fleurs-de-lis on the quillon and loop-guard. Mother-of-pearl grips. Complete with scabbard. According to a note by the owner, the sword belonged to the physician Captain Dr. Giuseppe Hotz who performed the autopsy of Charles III. length 93 cm.
dating: 1807 provenance: Europe, Straight, double-edged blade of hexagonal section, with fuller at the first part and inscription 'FRANCISCO PICININO' on both sides between small decorations. Iron hilt, shell-guard with two-headed eagle under crown, sword and shield with five birds. Disk pommel with narrowing base, decorated with floral motifs in bas-relief like the whole hilt. Checkered wooden grip, in front a shield with five birds under crown, behind a shield with monogram 'I' or 'T'. Wooden scabbard covered with reptile skin and engraved silver mounts, the hook in the shape of a bird. All parts in silver with marks '1807', 'CA' and another scarcely legible one. Scarce. length 92 cm.
dating: first quarter of the 17th Century provenance: Europe, Burgonet with skull in one piece featuring a comb engraved and twisted at the border, provided with a short, pointed brim with hemmed border featuring a twisted decoration. Iron leather strings. Movable cheeck-pieces with air holes and ropes worked like the helmet. The nape-guard fixed with rivets. Breat-plate ribbed at the center and a little bit rounded with simple borders, iron, knotted clutches on the sides and straps on the upper side. Gorget with three-plate back-pieces and thick, twisted rope. Six-plate pauldrons. Modern brassards. Inarticulated gauntlet wit all the scales. Cuffs worked with relieved bands. Knee-cop that can be converted into tassets, with hammered and twisted borders. height armour cira 128 cm.
dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: France, Round, micro-rifled, 14,8 mm cal. barrel at the nozzle, with octagonal base, with foresight and markings 'F' and 'L' in circles, 'MI', date '1862. Breech with tang and fixed rear sight. Backward spring lock marked 'M.re Imp.le de Chatellerault', 'G' mark under star. Working mechanics, but the first trigger has no safety lock. Three-quarter wooden stock with visible stamps on the left side. Iron mounts. Butt-plate with loading gate containing a tip to be screwed to the ramrod. length 25 cm.

Quillons, arms of the hilt, rings and loop-guard worked with waves and small buttons at the ends. Oval pommel and grip carved with deep grooves and very fine grooves at the cannelures. length 131.5 cm.

dating: late 17th Century provenance: Bologna, Solid, roundish lock plate decorated in relief with a beautiful mask at the tang, consisting of leaves and flowers and surrounded by engraved racemes, signed 'Ales. ro Ghini / Loiano' among engraved spirals and flowers at the center of the pate. The hammer shaped as a swan's neck with fine elements shaped as vine-shoots, the screw's head with mask. Small engravings at the back. The fire striker provided with double pan cover, the upper one is sliding and with automatic retraction loading the hammer. Probably manufactured for a double-barreled pistol. Barbiroli reports two Alessandro Ghini di Loano (grandfather and grandchild) from the second half of 17th century and first decades of 18th century, respectively. See 'Repertorio Storico degli Archibugiari Italiani', pag. 293. 'Marchi e Firme di Archibugiari Italiani' (page 376) features the grandfather's signature from the inside of a Florentine snaphance dating 1670 circa, less elaborated yet very similar to the one presented here. length plate 15,4 cm.
