Cleveland (John) J. Cleaveland Revived: Poems, Orations, Epistles, third edition, 2 engraved portrait frontispieces, trimmed and laid down, 4pp. near contemporary manuscript copy letter tipped-in, ex-library with label remnants and ink-stamps, lacking A1 (?blank), trimmed, occasionally affecting signatures and catch-words, faint spotting and off-setting, occasional marginal tears, neatly repaired, final leaf (N4) with small tear and loss at gutter affecting text (advertisements), modern morocco-backed boards, blind-stamp to upper cover, [Wing C4676], 8vo, for Nathaniel Brook, 1662.⁂ The copy letter mentions Cleveland's arrest and imprisonment, also pleading for Cromwell's clemency.

NO RESERVE First World War.- [James (Alfred)] Six Months in Politics by "West Country Miner", presentation inscription from the author to title, ownership blind stamp to front endpapers, contemporary cloth, lightly soiled, printed for the Private Record of the Recipient only, 1917; and a pre-production typed proof, and 2 First World War letters by Lieutenant Frank Torbett to a friend, v.d., v.s. (4)⁂ Frank Torbutt was a Lieutenant in the 32nd Divisional Ammunition Column of the Royal Field Artillery. Both letters describe his daily life on the Western Front, including marching on a full pack and sleeping in fields, barns, and stables: ""it is quite a common thing here to see a raised plot of grass by the side of the road with an inscription an unknown soldier who died for his country R.I.P", and experiences in the trenches, "suddenly you will turn off and cut through a field or two and finally find yourself at the entrance to a communication trench which is some five foot deep with earth piled on each side. This trench is made in zig zag fashion and on you tramp until you eventually come to the firing line. It is quite an experience to hear the bullets whistling overhead...".

GERMAN VIOLIN, LOUIS LOWENDALL, DRESDEN DATED 1883 the two piece curly maple back stamped 'DRESDEN' and 'REGISTERED' and painted with a portrait of the violinist Ludwig Spohr, the button with a Registration stamp and number 390660, the back of the scroll branded 'LOWENDALL'S ARTIST VIOLIN'; the front of ash with interior label 'Louis Lowendall/ fecit Dresdæ. Anno 1883'; TOGETHER WITH a bow stamped GERMANY and branded initials ACHM in a cross, 740mm long; in a baize-lined wood case with extra keys, frets, strings, and tailpiece(back 358mm long, upper bout 170mm, lower bout 214mm)Footnote: Note: Ludwig Spohr, 1784 -1859, was a German composer, violinist, and conductor. Highly regarded during his lifetime, he toured extensively through Europe, and made six tours of England beginning in 1820. He composed more than one hundred and fifty works in the Romantic style, but fell into obscurity for most of the 20th century, but has experienced a rediscovery over the last few decades.
A pair of Mintons oriental style vases circa 1880, each with mythical animal handles, over hanging rim, the bodies with shaped cut outs behind an applied figure with snakes, supported on three cabriole leg and round platform base, gilt decoration on brown and pink ground, both stamped 'Mintons' and one with gilt factory stamp, height 20cm. Condition - one figure missing hand and another with restoration in same place, otherwise vey good, no further damage/repair, minor wear to gilding etc.
