Colonial School. Peru. 18th century."Virgin Mary with Angels"Oil on canvas. With a period cedarwood frame. 82 x 68 cm.This image is not an exact reproduction of the sculpture in Zaragoza; for example, the extended right arm with a flower in its hand could be an attempt to make the image seem more “natural”. We can compare it with other portraits of Our Lady of the Pillar, in which this arm does not copy the posture of the original, and can be seen to be extended or touching the Child’s foot, as in the canvas by José Campeche, which is kept in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, in Washington, which has this same variation in the arm: (https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/la-virgen-del-pilar-35440).On the other hand, the composition of this painting, in which two angels holding candelabras with lit candles flank the Virgin Mary, is reminiscent of an 18th century stamp, an example of which can be seen in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes in Valencia (https://www.realacademiaconcepcion.net/fondos_grabados1.php?pagina=2), with the identifying code G.24.In our painting, however, the bird held by the Child, the column itself on which the sculpture sits, and the cross which can be seen at the front part do coincide with the iconography of Our Lady of the Pillar of Zaragoza. We would like to thank Carlos Rodríguez Morales for his help in cataloguing this lot (@Vretratos in Twitter).

Edward Paton 20 bore thumbhole underlever double barrel shotgun, 28 inch Damascus black powder only proofed barrels engraved with a numeral 1 as well as makers name and 108 Mount St. Grosvenor Sqre London & 44 George St. Perth, finely engraved action and trigger guard, figured chequered stock with silver escutcheon engraved with an eagle above 'spe et amore' (hope and love) serial number 2836.UK RFD OR SHOTGUN LICENCE REQUIRED TO BUY THIS LOT.Condition report: Bores measure in proof at .630 each against a 19 (626) proof stamp. The gun is generally average condition but could do with some cleaning up to look its best. The stock has some dents and marks, the trigger guard has a slight dent which could be corrected with relative ease. The barrels on the exterior have some pitting patches and there are some pitting patches in the bores which will probably never clean out without overly thining the barrel walls.
Lee Enfield No 5 Jungle Carbine Foresight Adjustment Tool, (cramp) complete with original packing box dated 1948, the box in unopened condition.B2 CR. 27A TOOLS FORESIGHT, CLAMP No. 4 MK II QTY. 1. On the side of the box is a rubber stamp I.F.A and a date stamp DEC 1948.The final five images included in the lot description Illustrated online are taken by the vendor who has another identical example which he has opened up to photograph. An extremely rare armourer’s tool used for lateral adjustment of the foresight on the Lee Enfield .303 No.5 Jungle Carbines. The Official designation was the Tool Foresight Cramp No.4 for the No.5 rifle. This is slightly confusing, but then the one for the No.4 rifle was the No.3 cramp! There is a reference for them in Dorsey and Shaffer’s book Gun Tools Volume 2, page 364 ‘This cramp adjusts windage on the British No.5 Mk1 Jungle Carbine front sight. The large hole fits around the flash hider and the smaller hole clears the bayonet stud located under the flash hider. Blackened machined steel with the following markings: Crown E and No.4 Rifle No.5.’
BSA .310 Cadet rifle, 24 inch barrel fitted with tangent rear sight, the receiver stamped 'Commonwealth of Australia' as well as being stamped N.S.W. and numbered 75243, 28322, the action numbered 27828.Section 58 (2) antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18.Condition report: Generally nice overall. Action works correctly. The metalwork is in good original condition with crisp marks, slight wear to the edges of the bluing but most remains and is original. The stock has probably been refinished as there is a date stamp which is faint, there is slight oil staining and a few filled dents, this sounds worse than it looks. The bore is good with no pitting and strong rifling. The face of the muzzle has a minor dent which does not affect the crown. The nose cap of the forend might not be original as there is provision for a cleaning rod but no slot in the stock.
