Wendy Walsh (1915-2014) PULMONARIA watercolour over pencil signed lower right; titled lower left; with David Hendriks Gallery framing label on reverse 14 by 10½in. (35.56 by 26.67cm) Dr. Wendy F. Walsh was one of Ireland`s foremost botanical artists. She illustrated a number of acclaimed botanical books and designed postage stamps for the Irish Post Office. In addition she produced designs for fabric and for pottery.She was known internationally for her books produced in conjunction with the distinguished botanist Dr E.Charles Nelson, former taxonomist at the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin. `An Irish Florilegium` won a bronze medal for the `Most beautiful Book in the World` at the Leipzig Book Fair.Wendy Walsh exhibited internationally and won many awards for her work , including several Gold Medals from the Royal Horticultural Society which attracted many collectors of art as well as those interested in the Fauna and Flora of Ireland, as well as philatelists who hold her stamp designs in high esteem.

Papier: 29 x 39,1 cm (11,4 x 15,4 in).Erschienen in der Zeitschrift `Le Boulevard`, 21. September 1862.PROVENIENZ: Privatsammlung Baden-Württemberg (verso mit dem Sammlerstempel, nicht bei Lugt). Daumier kommentiert mit dieser Illustration in `Le Boulevard` auf ironische Weise die Tücken und Unannehmlichkeiten des neuen öffentlichen Personentransportes: `In der Eisenbahn - Ein angenehmer Nachbar`. Ende der 1830er Jahre beginnt der Bau der ersten Verbindungsstraßen, 1843 werden die ersten Eisenbahnstrecken zwischen Paris und Orléans sowie zwischen Paris und Rouen eröffnet. Es gibt drei verschiedene Reiseklassen, eingerichtet sind die Wagons ähnlich den Pariser Pferdekutschen. Wissenschaftler warnten damals vor den möglichen schweren Gehirnschäden aufgrund der hohen Geschwindigkeit von 25 km/h. Similar to the sheet ?Madeleine-Bastille? Daumier made an ironic comment with this illustration in ?Le Boulevard? on the intricacies and inconveniences of public transport: ?On the train ? A pleasant neighbor?. The first routes were built in the 1830s, in 1843 the lines between Paris and Orléans were opened. There were three different categories, the carriages were similar to the horse carriages in Paris. Scientist warned that the speed of 25 km/h could cause severe brain damage.
