Die unterschiedlichen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten der Lithographie und des Kupferstichs wurden hier geschickt genutzt, um die erhaltenen Gebäude und Kunstwerke zu präsentieren. Während der Entstehung des Buches waren die Ausgrabungen der vor 1900 Jahren durch den Ausbruch des Vesuvs verschütteten Stadt noch in vollem Gange. - Titel mit gestrichenem Stempel, ganz vereinzelt kleine Braunflecken, Innenspiegel leicht fleckig. - Insg. sehr gut erhaltenes Exemplar. Detailed description of the excavations, with floor plans, sculptures, frescos, vaults, gates and facades. The different expressive possibilities of lithography and copper engraving were skilfully used here to present the preserved buildings and works of art. While the book was being written, the excavations of the city, which was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius 1900 years ago, were still in full swing. - Red half calf wit gilt title on green label to the spine, gild tooling to the spine and red painted board (rubbed, slightly stained). - Title with deleted stamp, quite isolated small brown spots, paste-down endpaper slightly stained. - Overall very well preserved copy.
