Library) in later cloth, Charles Griffin and Company (1862) Original part numbers given on plates of vols 1 - 3, vol 1 some plates dated 1864, vol 4 'Advertisement / Advert. leaf dated Dec. 1861, this vol was added for this edition. All plates present - as listed. Library marks - ownership label front paste downs, small circular stamp near / at foot of title (not on printing), classmark title verso, label etc. Traces back endpapers, gilt classmark foot of spine, no marks plates / text; cloth with some spine wear. Vol I - good inside; Vol 2 - the same; Vol 3 - sellotape repair down centre pp.443/44 (offset p.442) contents / illustrations leaf cropped at fore-edge, some loss; Vol 4 - sellotapee repair on half title verso, for this vol apparently no index issued. All d-column printing. The Companion vol was The Criminal Prisons of London (by Mayhew & Binny), g.v.
