A 1920s Wood & Sons Bursley Ware wall plaque, designed by Charlotte Rhead, pattern number 1550, having a tube-lined decoration of stylized open poppy flowers in red and blue, on a gold ground with a geometrically patterned border, approx 37cm diameter. Unusually, this example carries a 'Susie Cooper Crown Works' stamp, instead of the usual Wood & Sons/Bursley mark. Susie Cooper had taken over the premises at the Crown Pottery from Woods at about the time this plaque was produced, so although it is undoubtedly a Rhead piece, it was perhaps mixed up during the hand over and given the wrong stamp.
