An early 19th century French silver tea caddy, cockerel stamp for 800 purity, makers stamp JGH above star, within a diamond, the box of curved oblong vase form, the concave hinged cover with recumbent lion finial, approx 12cm high, approx 8.9oz. CONDITION REPORT: Repair to hinge, general dents and creasing, no key.
A West Country apostle spoon, Exeter c.1625, Edward Anthony, with crowned X stamp to the bowl, later gilt, approx 19cm, approx 1.5oz. CONDITION REPORT: Overall good condition, slight thinning to the front edge of bowl. Mark inside bowl rubbed. Makers mark on stem clear. Later gilding. The apostle appears to be St. James The Less.
Attributed to Alfred Dehodencq, French 1822-1882- Study of a monk, head and shoulders; oil on canvas, in a 19th century gilt composition Empire style frame, 55x46cm CONDITION REPORT: frame looks to be the original, circa mid 19th century with key construction retains the original gilt surface with some losses to the gesso mainly front edge canvas has been re-lined circa early 20th century on a wooden stretcher with cross brace stretcher bears inscriptions in blue crayon some damages to the stretcher and taping disturbance centre right and left edges reverse of canvas with stamp lower right under inspection with uv lamp there is no evidence of recent re-touching or restorations paint surface has been re-varnished but not in recent years and this varnish has not been disturbed
Marjorie V O Morris, British fl.1931-35- "Mrs Thomas Morris"; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1932, titled, signed and inscribed Royal Academy 1932 on the stretchers reverse, 60x51cm, (unframed) (may be subject to Droit de Suite) Note: This portrait was exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, no. 29, 1932. Morris is also documented as exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1931 and 1935. Provenance: From the art collection at the former St Gabriel's College, Camberwell. St Gabriel's was a Church of England teacher training college, founded in 1899 and closed in 1978. Its Art Department attracted talented teachers and artists whose vocation was to inspire young teachers through studying and imitating the work of great artists. The paintings and drawings in this collection were collected by the College's staff through donations and purchases during the interwar and post-war periods. After the College's closure, the collection was transferred to the ownership of an educational trust and until recently loaned to Goldsmith's University of London. CONDITION REPORT: unframed not relined on what appears to be the original stretcher inscribed in pen on the stretcher "Mrs Thomas Morris/Royal Academy 1932//by M V O Morris" canvas reverse bearing stamp for "R.A. Student Ccanvas/ C. Robesson & Co Ltd/166 Picadilly, London" with 1.5cm of salvage around all edges recto with worn edges and corners with various surface scuff marks throughout with a bar mark from the lower stretcher with a concave dent approx. 5mm in diameter within the wall to the left of the sitter overall in good condition
