Four wriggle-work pewter plates by James Hitchman, London, circa 1715. Each decorated with a vase of flowers, engraved ownership initials, wriggled borders, touch marks and 'hallmarks' to the reverse, each 21.5 cm diameter together with a George III-style pewter tea pot with ivory knop, a silver plated oval basket, two copper circular dishes, one with 'Rhodesian Copper' stamp (8)
An Aquamarine and South Sea Cultured Pearl Torsade Necklace, multiple rows of faceted pear shaped aquamarines, with pearls spaced at intervals, and round rhodium plated accents, to a navy enamelled cupola clasp, length of the shortest strand 41cm see illustration The necklace is in good condition. The pearls are of slightly irregular roundish form. They are a golden cream hue. The surface of the pearls is pitted in places, with grooves in parts. It is strung on unknotted thread. It fastens with two interlocking circular clasps. The clasps bear no hallmark nor stamp, but in our opinion they would test as blackened silver. Gross weight 164.4g. CR made 13th October 2016
A large personal archive of studio photographs, promotional motion picture stills and related ephemera belonging to Academy Award winning cinematographer Milton R. Krasner (1904-1988), including a large quantity of 25 x 20 cm, 13 x 10 cm and sundry other glossy images of Krasner on set and socialising with the cast and crew of various films, including Jean Simmons, Cary Grant, Fritz Lang, Lou Costello, Joan Fontaine, Lauren Bacall and John Wayne etc, together with ephemera including four short scripts entitled 'Frontier', 'Give More in '54' (United Jewish Fundraising Campaign), 'The Miracle of Stereophonic Sound' (1954) and 'Farewell Symphony' (1954) bearing the stamp of Otto Lang, film reviews including a copy of The Film Daily with covering letter dated 1951, making reference to an enclosed review of People Will Talk (1951), and one other the same; referencing Three Coins in a Fountain (1954), copies of International Photographer magazine, a programme for the press preview of the motion picture The Egg and I (1947), an official promotional photograph from the 'World Famous' Coconut Grove night club in Los Angeles (featured in the 2004 motion picture The Aviator), together with a U.S Government War Department certificate for the 'Give Dogs and Dollars' scheme, awarded to Krasner for the donation of the family dog 'Rex' to the war effort, alongside an American National Red Cross Volunteer Special Services Certificate awarded to Mrs Mildred Krasner in July 1943, and a post-War Award of Merit certificate from the United Jewish Appeal, alongside a quantity of personal family photographs and ephemera Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Milton Krasner was working on productions for the silver screen during the Classical Hollywood Cinema Age, having first started out as an assistant cameraman in 1917. By 1933 he was promoted to the role of lighting cameraman and was assigned to mostly second features until the mid 1940s when his excellence in black and white photography was finally recognised. He is perhaps best remembered for his time at 20th Century Fox during the 1950s and beyond, where he photographed many of the studio's opulent technicolour epics including 'Demetrius and the Gladiators' (1954), 'Desiree' (1954), 'The Rains of Ranchipur' (1955), 'Rawhide' (1951), 'How the West Was Won' (1962) and 'Three Coins in a Fountain' (1954); for which he won an Academy Award. He worked with all leading stars of the day, in particular Marilyn Monroe with whom he collaborated on a number of titles, including 'All About Eve' (1950), 'Monkey Business' (1952) 'O. Henry's Full House' (1952), 'The Seven Year Itch' (1955) and 'Bus Stop' (1956). His last production was 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' (1970) and he passed away in 1988 at Woodland Hills, California aged 84 years.
