Lord Howe Island. 1930 (Sep. 4) Cover addressed within Lord Howe Island franked River Murray Tercentenary 1½d with manuscript surcharge "2d Paid PM LHI" tied by a Lord Howe Island c.d.s. When the Lord Howe Island Post Office ran out of 2d stamps the Postmaster was authorised to surcharge 1½d stamps in manuscript; 260 stamps were surcharged and used between August 23rd and October 17th 1930. A fine and scarce cover (S.G. £750 as a single stamp). Photo on Page 68.

Manchester. 1905 (Dec. 18) Cover posted from Manchester to Leeds with QV 1d postcard cut-out tied by Manchester c.d.s, arrival backstamp, the stamp then tied by a superb strike of the violet oval "MANCHESTER / ADVANCE POSTED / CHRISTMAS 1905", presumably cancelled to order, nevertheless a scarce cancel and very unusual.
