A PAIR OF ROUND BODIED CANNON-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK POCKET PISTOLS BY KING, CIRCA 1750, no visible serial numbers, 2 1/2in. turn off barrels, turned cannon shaped muzzles, the undersides struck with London gunmakers proofs and the crowned 'F' foreigners stamp, round bodied foliate engraved actions with central banners, the ones on the right bearing the makers name 'KING', and on the left 'LONDON', central cocks, one piece walnut butts inlaid and attractively decorated with silver wire, with white-metal grotesque or Medusa's mask butt-caps.

A .65 NEW LAND PATTERN FLINTLOCK SERVICE PISTOL, CIRCA 1810, no visible serial number, 9in. barrel with baluster turned breech and struck with the King's proofs, swivel rammer hinged to the muzzle, bevelled edge lock bearing the King's cypher to the centre together with the small broad arrow and crown Government ownership stamp, the tail of the lockplate engraved 'TOWER', raised semi-waterproof pan, and ring-neck cock, full walnut stock with carved apron around the barrel tang, the wrist struck with an Ordnance storekeepers stamp (overstamped and illegible), other inspection stamps and struck in the rammer channel and into the butt near the trigger-guard tang, at one time the grip had a mounting hole now plugged (likely from wall display), regulation brass mounts including a short lobed stepped buttcap.

G1689, for 1953, in loose imitation of a Luger 'P08' service pistol, die-cast construction with single-shot toggle action, 'P22' marking cast in receiver with a 'G' stamp to the front, safety catch forwards of the trigger, aperture for carbon dioxide bulb in the grip, black bakelite grooved grips, much original thinned finish with losses on high spots, in its maker's card carton (tears to some corners).

London proofed octagonal barrel, the top flat inscribed 'DEANE ADAMS & DEANE, 30 KING WILLIAM ST, LONDON BRIDGE', borderline engraved frame marked 'ADAMS PATENT NO 13276R', sliding bolt safety, Birmingham proofed five shot cylinder marked, 'No 30623', one nipple missing, chequered one piece walnut grips with stepped oval butt-cap, likely historically refurbished with much charcoal blue remaining and a new cylinder fitted, contained in its correct purple velvet lined and partitioned oak case, accessories include correct Adams double cavity mould for ball and conical projectiles, with Adams registered design stamp, a copper bodied pistol flask by Dixon, and a pewter oil bottle. The case in good external condition, partitions solid, lining dirty.

Edward Stott (1855-1918) pastel - landscape, 22cm x 41cm, initialled in pencil and bearing a gallery stamp, in glazed frame. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotheby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.
