Collections: 1937-51 mint omnibus issue collection in black Lighthouse stockbook, almost entirely unmounted mint, the only hinged stamp noted being the HK Wedding $10. Odd instance of two-toned gum from storage, otherwise seems fine. Coronation with extras including Newfoundland extra chimney (2), Victory with perf. varieties, Silver Wedding, UPU and assorted Olympics, etc. STC £3150
Bechuanaland. 1897 ½d yellow-green with the Townshend & Co overprint, mint top right corner block of sixteen with reduced selvedge at top; selvedge also has a thin and there is a little perf splitting just below this. Minor overprint varieties, including small final `A` in all stamps in last column. All bar two stamps are unmounted, a couple of trivial wrinkles and one stamp with a tiny foxed spot, but nonetheless in a remarkably good state of preservation. SG 57 (£640)
Bechuanaland. 1924 Simple Cypher watermark collection on leaves. A most extensive collection (the great majority mint), representing a valiant attempt to tie the various controls to the shades as listed in the SG GB Specialised catalogue. Control blocks of six as follows; ½d C13 x 4, J17, O20 x 3, R21, S22 x 2; 1d C13, I16, J17 x 3, M19 x 4, V23 (the carmine-red shade); 1½d O19 x 2; 2d D14, R21; 2½d C13, C14 (the blue shade; unmounted but two stamps in the top row have slight foxing on the top perfs); 3d D14 x 2; 6d D14 x 2; 1/- C13. In addition there are Control singles, pairs, strips and blocks other than six. The range of shades to back up these Controls is impressive. There is a 1/- Specimen. Obviously not every stamp is perfect, but this is a great lot for the specialist and viewing is highly recommended. SG 73-82s
British Levant. 1902 4pi on 10d dull purple and carmine on chalky paper, an unmounted mint interpanneau block of forty (margins at top and base); with eight examples of the `no cross on Crown` and three examples of the `quoin` flaw. Well written up on album page with the unoverprinted stamp identified as SG Spec M43(2), the slate-purple and carmine shade. SG 10b, ba (£992)
