Geological survey from an expedition undertaken in 1928 by the Hungarian geologist, Lajos Lóczy (c. 1891-1980), who began a contract with Royal Dutch Shell in 1922 to undertake geological explorations in Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Timor and Celebes (presently Indonesia); and also in Ecuador, Peru, Romania, Yugoslavia, Polonia and Hungary. In 1926 Lóczy became the chair of Geology at the University of Budapest.

(A System of Logic). The work contains one of the first appearances of the term 'phenomenology', and was highly thought of by Kant.

Montesquieu (Charles Secondat, Baron de) De L'Esprit des Loix, ou du Rapport que les Loix..., 2 vol. in 1, occasional even browning, stamp to foot of title, contemporary speckled sheep, spine gilt, rubbed, [not in Kress or Goldsmith's], 4to, Leiden [but Lyon], chez les Libraires Associe's, 1749.⁂ Early Edition of one of the most remarkable works of the eighteenth century, discussing the philosophical principles of law and government, and the determining influence of geographical and economic factors on social thought, customs, and legal and political institutions. This copy with Montesquieu's authorised errata - we know of three other copies similarly constituted, one of which was inscribed by Montesquieu. The writer's theories exerted a profound influence: "they underlay the thinking which led up to the American and French Revolutions, and the United States Constitution in particular is a lasting tribute to the principles he advocated." (PMM, p.197)

J. Robinson, the Viscount Goderich (1782-1859) became Prime Minister in 1827 when George Canning died after only 119 days in office. Goderich was only able to hold the fragile coalition together for 144 days, before leaving office in 1828. Canning and Goderich held the unenviable record of the two shortest ruling Prime Ministers in British history, until Liz Truss took that record in 2022.

Velthuysen's work on idolatry and superstition, together with his subsequent defences of the work in reaction to the protests of the Protestant Consistory to Utrecht magistrates. Velthuysen (1622-1685) was a Dutch theologian, philosopher, physician and administrator, who was a correspondent and friend of Spinoza. The pair defended Descartes against the Calvinist theologian Voetius.

Architecture.- Spain.- Laurent (Juan) A group of c.50 mainly architectural photographs of Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Segovia, Toledo, Madrid etc., mostly exteriors, a few interiors, most 260 x 350mm. or vice versa, a few smaller, some captioned in the plate, the majority with ink stamp of J.Ruiz Vernacci of Madrid to verso, one or two of N.Portugal, a few with embossed stamp in corner of image, a little dusty, a few frayed at edges, [mid-late 19th century].⁂ Juan Laurent (1816-86) was a French photographer settled in Spain who is known particularly for his photographs of Spanish art and architecture. In 1930 his archive was purchased by the photographer Joaquin Ruiz Vernacci (1892-1975) and then in 1975 by the Spanish government.

The chain is slightly brighter than the pendant. The bracelets have wear, the first missing diamonds, the second is very short. the necklace has some light wear, there is a signature to the clasp that is difficult to read.
