c.1779 scarce block of 4 x (2) horse duty : mileage ticket 'stamps' with part STAMP OFFICE watermark ~ From tudor times Inn keepers provided horses along the post roads for hire and as from 1779 an Act imposed a duty on top of the hire by which tickets were issued to show payment of this duty. Travellers undertaking long journeys often followed the postal routes for safety and would hire horses from stage to stage for faster travelling - the ticket had to be carried by the traveller and these are overprinted 10th Dis(trict) - the duty was originally 1d per mile

He was often referred to as the Fifth Beatle after signing The Beatles to EMI in 1962 and going on to produce every original album they made until the group parted ways in 1970. George Martin co-founded Associated Independent Recordings and opened Air Studios in central London in 1970. Air Montserrat opened in 1979 and for ten years hosted many of the biggest names in rock and pop.Condition Report: overall good condition.

(35) Provenance: The Collection of British puppeteer, Christine Glanville (1924-1999). Glanville's long collaboration with Gerry Anderson began in 1956 as a puppet operator on the Twizzle And Torchy TV. series. Simon & Halbig for Kammer & Reinhardt, Germany bisque head doll, head stamp 403, sleeping eyes, open mouth, composition body, 46cm.Condition report:The head is quite grubby on the surface all over, but there does not appear to be any chips or cracks to the bisque, eyes work well. There is tiny scratch to one eyebrow otherwise the paint is good. The body has a few small chips on the coners of the joints but is solid and strong. Has all fingers.
